誰もが知っているクラシックの名曲を、確かな演奏技術と卓越したセンスのEuropean Jazz Trio(EJT)が優雅なジャズに仕上げている。原曲の美しいメロデイーはそのままに、ジャズのリズムやスイング感を鮮やかにとり入れている。皆が知っている曲を素材にしてアレンジすることは、リスナーとその主題を同時に共感できるというメリットはあるが、反面、リスナーにある名曲の記憶への違和感による強い批評にさらされるリスクがある。これはEJTにとって大変勇気のあることであったと思う。リスナーはその曲の変化、逸脱を感じて、EJTに問うだろう。しかし、クラシックでありながら、演奏の進行は譜面ではなく演奏者の手にすべて委ねられる。その独特の緊張感と、リズム、音の変化から楽曲の意図を感じ取るのがジャズの醍醐味でありリスナーのセンスだ。EJTはクラシックとジャズのアレンジメントの妙を我らに楽しませてくれる。EJTは1984年にオランダで結成されて以来、メンバー交代はあったが、20年以上活動を続けている。我が、日本での人気も高く、毎年のように来日コンサートを行っている。レビューアーも数回、生演奏の醍醐味を味あわせていただきました。現在のトリオの構成は、ピアノ：マーク・ヴァン・ローン、ベース：フランス・ホーヴァン、ドラムス：ロイ・ダッカスである。レビューアーはこれを聴きながら、FIKAと煙草を嗜んでいるが、FIKAはともかく煙草は家族からの攻撃が強く老レビューアー・・・。このCDは「ベスト・オブ・クラシックスII」もお求めになってもよいと思います。

「天空のソナタ」でEJTを知ってから、
今や、独りの時間を過ごす時や、
リラックスしたい時に欠かせない存在に。

クラシックの名曲ばかりだけれど、
聴くとジャズ。
オリジナルに抵抗が有る人も、
これなら難なく聴けると思う。

このＣＤは、心から「買って良かった！！」
と言える逸品！

今をときめくヨーロピアンジャズトリオ（ＥＪＴ）のクラシック集。曲はクラシックだが、そこはＥＪＴ、ヨーロッパの透明な空気感が伝わってくる独自の世界。このようなアルバムは理屈をつけずに、ただただ聴くのがいい。グラス片手の酒の友、ＢＧＭとしても上質である。この２枚組みは内容からすると、お得です。（松本敏之）
