   香港の市街地で警察と強盗団の銃撃戦が発生。ある警官が強盗に命乞いしているところを、たまたま居合わせたTVクルーが撮影。強盗団には逃げられ、警官の醜態はTVでオンエアされ、香港警察には非難が殺到した。しかし警察は、メディアを利用して、強盗団逮捕までをTV中継するという策に出る。香港市民がTVに釘付けになる中、警察VS強盗団は壮絶なバトルを繰り広げることに。
   メディアを利用した犯罪というのは、これまでも映画化されてきたが、メディアに恥をかかされた警察が、それを逆手にとって利用するというアイデアが秀逸。また警察が強盗団を取り逃がす冒頭から、メディアを利用した逮捕劇まで、息つく間もないスピーディな展開が、一層スリルを煽る。まさにノンストップサスペンス！ 強盗団のリーダーを演じるリッチー・レンはクールな中にも情を感じさせるアニキ的風貌が魅力。この映画の華であるケリー・チャンも女性らしい柔らかさを封印して、男たちの中にいても一歩も引けをとらない警察官を好演している。監督はジョニー・トー。サスペンスに定評のある彼の実力が最大限に発揮された作品と言えるだろう。（斎藤 香）

冒頭7分間に及ぶワンカットの銃撃シーンは良かった。ジョニー･トー監督は暴力をスタイリッシュに映像化する方法に長けているようです。銃撃戦というとクリント・イーストウッド的無敵のガンマンが数に勝る相手を瞬殺するパターンや、アントニオ・バンデラス風無敵のガンマンがアクロバットそこのけに相手を激殺するパターンなど劇的なものが結構多い。ジョニー･トーの銃撃戦は、それらと比べて非常に地味＆クール。ジョン・ウー的派手さなんてまったくありません。表情変わらず、動きはスロー（歩いてますから）。吹っ飛んで死ぬやつもいません（本来そんな死に方しないし）。でもリアルと言うのともちょっと違う（本当の銃撃戦で歩いてるやつはまずいない）。この移動カメラのロングテイクの目的は、ひたすら強盗団のプロフェッショナルなクールさをスマートに映像化すること。なかなかかっこいい映像だと思いますよ。ストーリー的には、欲張って盛り込んだ友情部分が消化しきれていない。演出や演技も少し甘い部分が目に付くものの、こと映像のかっこよさではイケてます。

作品の面白さは文句なし。
特に、オープニングの７分間ワンカットの銃撃戦だけでも一見の価値がある。
ただ、この銃撃戦のメイキング映像が見たかったなぁ・・・。

「ザ・ミッション」あたりで、ジョニー・トー監督のファンになった人も多いと思いますが、そのつもりで期待して観るとコケます。
まず、全体的にスピード感がないので途中でアキてしまいます。次に、登場する俳優さんにイマイチ魅力が感じられないのです。「ＰＴＵ」のような群像劇でもないのに、みんな一緒に見えてしまうから、強盗団のリーダー役のリッチー・レンのファンの方には申し訳ないですが、緊迫感にかけちゃうのです。ケリー・チャンは、キリリとした美人の役にマッチしていますが、それでも彼女の良さが充分とはいえないような。
ジョニー・トー監督は、以前雑誌のインタビューで「ザ・ミッション」とか「ＰＴＵ」のような自分が作りたい映画のためには、会社としての収益を上げるためにも色々な作品を作ってると語ってましたが、これもそんな１作品かなぁと思ってしまいました。香港映画に関しては、超駄作でも基本的に許してしまう私ですが、ついジョニー・トー監督だと思うと好きなだけにこの作品は、星２個になってしまいましたが、今後、期待通りの作品をぜひ作っていただくためにもファンの方はこのＤＶＤも買ってくださいね。
