ゲッターロボ號には原作マンガがあります。と言っても、タイアップということもあり、アニメとマンガでは設定やストーリーが大きく異なります。ファンの間ではマンガの方があまりに有名でゲッターシリーズの中でも特に人気があります。わかりやすい相違点を１つだけ挙げるとすれば、アニメは昔のゲッターロボ（アニメ版）のリメイクで、マンガは昔のゲッターロボ（原作版）の続編です。私も大の原作ファンですが、今回DVD発売を機会にアニメ版を初視聴しました。

結論から言えば、想像以上に面白かったです。この手のスパロボアニメは、初めから敵のロボットよりも圧倒的に強かったりすることが多いですが、このアニメの場合、ゲッターロボは軍事目的ではなく宇宙開発作業用ロボットとして開発されたという設定を生かし、最初はパンチとキックしか出来ないが、敵からの攻撃に対抗するため、止むを得ず徐々に戦闘用へ改良されていく・・・というプロセスや、その時の各キャラの心理描写などが巧く、それも丁寧に描かれていると思います。
また、ロボットアニメでは最も重要な戦闘シーンも格好良く、前半は特に肉弾戦が多いため、知らず知らずのうちに手に汗握っています。武器もすぐに強力なビーム系攻撃が出来るのではなく、最初はバズーカだったり、投網のような武器まで出てくるところが軍事基地っぽくなくて結構気に入りました。敵メカは原作者が原案らしいですが、デザインのグロさが抜群で、主役メカのヒーローっぽさとの対比が非常に良いです。

難点を挙げるとすれば、キャラクターの作画のバラツキです。ロボットや戦闘シーンは結構気合いが入っているようでそれほど問題はないのですが、キャラクター（特に主役三人と橘博士）は回によってのバラツキがあります（まだ10話しか見てませんが）。それさえなければ★５つです。

２巻以降の発売が楽しみな作品です。
