1972年にリリースされたアソシエイションの8作目にして最終となった作品、邦題は「アソシエイションの新しい世界」。彼らはソフトロックの代名詞とさえ言われるバンドですが、本作は、もうソフト・ロックという範疇を超え、コーラス・ワークが素晴らしいポップスの名作と言うべきものに仕上がっています。ジャケットが表しているように（凍ったミシガン湖にメンバーが立ってる）寒いイメージの作品集なのですが、聴いていると不思議と暖かい。寒い冬の屋外で、白い息を出しながら湯気のでてる暖かいココアを飲んで「ホ〜ッ」としてる、そんな感じのアルバムです。

5.0 out of 5 stars サウンド面で新境地をひらいた，邦題どおりの「アソシエイションの新しい世界」！, 2006/12/31
１９７２年５月に発売された，ＣＢＳレコード移籍第１弾アルバム。
全米アルバムチャート成績(ビルボート誌：ＴＯＰ２００）は，登場週数５週で最高位は１９４位。
シングルチャート成績（同）では，ファーストカットされたトラック２が最高位１０４位。

６０年代後半に台頭したソフト・ロック勢の中において，その美しいハーモニーで，サイモン＆ガーファンクル，
フィフス・ディメンションらと共に一時代を築いた彼らですが，このアルバムではカントリーやＪＡＺＺ，
スワンプ風味のエッセンスを取り込んだり，幻想的なアレンジを施したりなど，美しいハーモニーはそのままに，
チャート成績が信じられないほど，聴き応えのあるいいアルバムです。

本アルバムをリリース後，ブライアン・コールが亡くなり，以後の活動は散発的なものになったのが残念です。

アルバム・ジャケットは，凍てついたミシガン湖上で撮影されたものですが，ジャケット左上にある
「ソニーのトレードマーク（目玉マーク？）」も頭が凍りついているイラストなんかは，微笑ましいところです。

ボーナストラックの１５は，エピック・レコードの新レーベル「ＭＵＭＳ」から７３年にリリースされたシングルで，
シングルチャート（同上：ＨＯＴ１００）では，最高位９１位を記録しています。
