上野を出発すると一気に長岡まで突っ走ります。

越後湯沢からの「豪雪」が凄まじいです。
長岡あたりからはかなり見通しが悪くなります。

この雪景色を楽しむのもいいですが、
実はある場所で、あの引退した９２５系ドクターイエローと
すれ違う場面があります。これも見所です。

　普段は車窓からでも見過ごしてしまう景色もこのＤＶＤならしっかり見れます。しかも今となっては懐かしい東京発着以前の上野発車・２００系の車両とドクターイエロー、さらに上越新幹線あさひ号の時速２４０`の展望映像はスピード感に溢れ、また、運転手の速度・通過駅確認の声も入っていて当時のあさひ号の車内にいるようです。自宅にいながら気軽に懐かしい「あさひ」の空気が味わえます。
　都会から高崎までの風景は徐々に田畑が広がっていく光景がこのＤＶＤを見ていて面白かったです。高崎を過ぎるとトンネル続きで、トンネル中の走行時はせめてレールが見えるように画像処理して欲しかったので星を１つ削りましたがＢＧＭとして楽しむのであれば問題無いと思います。
　ある地点からいきなり雪景色に変わります。新潟に近付くにつれてだんだん雪が深くなっていくところも良かったです。
　川端康成の小説のように「長いトンネルを抜けるとそこは雪国だった」という言葉をこのＤＶＤで実感することができます。

東京延長前ですので上野から発車します。大宮も通過していかにも速達タイプの今は無き愛称「あさひ」号です。長岡まで無停車で一気に進んでくれます。
小説「雪国」の様に（新潟県の）トンネルを抜けるとそこは雪国だったと言いたいところですが、上毛高原駅付近から雪は積もっています（汗）。
残念ながら２７５キロを出す区間は越後湯沢前のトンネル（大清水トンネル）なのではっきりと２７５キロを満喫できる訳ではありませんが、その予速でいきなりトンネルを出た状態ですぐ越後湯沢駅を快走するのは圧巻です。
最後は長岡付近からのスプリンクラー駆動状態での雪景色（本格的）での快走で新潟まで進みます。
大宮を過ぎて通る東北新幹線とのジャンクション、高崎、越後湯沢での高速進行と雪景色を楽しめる廉価版ＤＶＤでお勧めです。（古いことは確かですが、越後湯沢に停車せず、高崎付近の都市等をノンストップで快走するのはいかにも新幹線と言えます）所有している新幹線ビデオ、ＤＶＤでもっとも面白いと思います。
