植村花菜の2006年第1弾シングル。タイトル曲は1974年のユーミンの名曲のカヴァー。ライヴでたびたび披露されていたもので、オリジナルよりゆったりと歌っている。カップリングにはインディーズ時代の楽曲のリアレンジ版を収録。

今年1月にデビュー・アルバム『いつも笑っていられるように』リリース後、早くも登場の4枚目のシングルは荒井由実の名曲カヴァー。軽快なカントリー・タッチの原曲をしっとりしたアコースティック・ギターとストリングスで膨らませたアレンジに仕立て上げ、歌う彼女のヴォーカルは透明感のある高いキーとソウルフルな低いキーを上手く使い分けている。彼女の自作曲となるカップリング「トゲと花」は素朴なジャズ・ブルーズといった印象で、実はソウル的な資質なヴォーカリストである気がする彼女の音楽キャラクターにぴったり合っている。 (小野田 雄) --- 2006年04月号

先日ラジオにて初めてフルで聞いたのですが、原曲に負けないほどいい感じに仕上がってます。
たぶん原曲も花菜さんが歌ってるのもそれぞれによさがあって、花菜さんが歌っているのはのびのびとしててやさしい感じがでている曲になっていると思いました。
カップリングのトゲと花も、インディーズ時代に出したバージョンとはまた違った感じで、これはこれで非常に楽しめる楽曲になってました。

ご存じユーミンのカバーなので、買おうかどうか迷っていたのですが、TBS系テレビ「うたばん」に出演され、ギターを抱えて歌われているのを見て、即購入しました。前半はギターだけ始まるアコースティックなアレンジで、若干ゆったりとしたリズムの曲になり、オリジナルよりいい感じです。本当に「やさしさに包まれた」感じになります。

カップリングの「トゲと花」もインディーズ時代よりパワーアップしたような感じです。自分としてはインディーズ時代のよりジャズっぽいアレンジの方が好みではありますが。

タイトルナンバーは言うまでもなく完璧です．原曲とは全く独立した，植村花菜の歌になってしまっています．
すごいのは『トゲと花』で，発声を押さえ気味にコントロールしつつ破綻なく歌っているところ．高い歌唱力，
余力がひしひしと伝わってきます．今後もっともっと成長するんでしょう，非常に楽しみです．
日本にもすごい人が出てきましたね．
