オレゴンの35周年アルバムやオリバー・カー・オーリオのアルバムへの参加などこの頃活動が盛んになってきた、ピエール・ベンスーザンと並ぶアコースティックギターの巨匠のソロ名義での久々の新作。ECM作品ではアンセム依頼となる作品。伝家の宝刀12弦ギターを使用したラスト2曲は特に感動的で久々に戦慄を感じた。一時期の穏やかな作風から最近は徐々に70年代を感じさせる冷徹で緊張感溢れる質感が復活してきたように思える。傑作。神の技が冴え渡る、全ギターファン必聴。来日希望。

ラルフ・タウナーのAna、Anthemに続くソロアルバムです。Anaが美しいメロディと響きを追い求めると同時に内省的な世界を対比させたアルバムなら、AnthemはAnaの後半に通じるような冷たい質感で、そのジャケットのとおりモノクロのような内省的な美の世界を繰り広げていると思います。そしてこのTime Lineは、前2作の世界観を融合させたようなアルバムだと思います。そればかりかそれまでのタウナーの音楽の集大成のようなスケールの大きを感じてしまいます。全体的な質感は余計な甘さを捨て去りながらも、内省的な美しさ、たくましさ、暖かさを感じます。部屋の明かりを消して聴いてみてください。その世界観をよりいっそう輪郭を持って感じることができると思います。何よりその高度なテクニックに支えられた大胆でいて繊細なプレイがきっとあなたの心に響くでしょう。ギター一本でこれほどの世界観を表現してしまうのだからタウナーはまさに偉大なミュージシャンだと思います。大ベテランにしてその音楽的ポテンシャルは衰えるどころか、その人生と共に深みを増すばかりです。僕はこのアルバムはタウナーの最高傑作の一枚だと思います。すばらしい。
