通称“ドッグ”と呼ばれる賞金稼ぎは、今日でも危険な商売でもあり、また自らも犯罪者になることもよくあるが、この作品はその辺をよくコメディータッチでうまく描いている秀作です。

デ・ニーロ自身もゴールデン・グローブ賞にノミネートされているように、彼独特のユーモアが楽しい。特にL.Aまでの道中で交わすチャールズ・グローディンとの会話は非常に愉快でした。

旅客機、列車、車はもちろん、激流に流され、複葉機でのチェース、ヘリとの銃撃など盛りだくさんのシーンが次から次へと現れ、そのつかの間では寂れた町でのカフェやバーでのやり取りが非常に上手いコントラストになっているところが良いですね。

それにしても、前年の『アンタッチャブル』でアル・カポネ役が様似なっていたデ・ニーロだけに今作もセリフはかなり汚い言葉だらけでした。でも、それが彼の役者としての持ち味ですね。

　映画ってやっぱりいいもんだなってよく思う。
　他の人からこの映画を語らせたら、「よくできたアクションコメディ」か、「当時、”演技の求道者”的な演技派ロバート・デ・ニーロが初挑戦したアクションコメディ」ぐらいだろう。でも、私にとってこの映画によって真の友人を得て、30半ばの私達が会えば、未だに話題になる特別な映画です。
　この映画を見るときは彼女ではなく、友人と見れば、ながーく付き合える真の友人になるかも・・・？

DVDのビデオと違う楽しみの一つに「日本語吹き替え版」が収録されている事があります。このタイトルの以前発売されたDVDを持っていますがやはり吹き替えはありません。ずっと昔、民法某局で放送された吹き替え版はなかなかのものでした。本編に加えてほしかった。
一方、このタイトルは賞金稼ぎの話ですが、決して「ドンパチアクション」ではありません。デニーロ演ずる主人公は決して「二枚目」ではありません。正義の戦いでもないと思います。しかし、初めて見た後「カッコイー」と泣きました。「かっこいいとはこういうことさ」そんなっ傑作です。あんまり女性には受けないかもしれません。
