米国で歌とピアノを学んだという中国出身の女性ヴォーカリスト、ベイ・シューのデビュー・アルバム。NYで活動している彼女、本作ももちろんNY録音で、ピアノ・トリオをバックにナチュラルで少しハスキーなヴォーカルを聴かせてくれる。

ベイ・シューは交換留学生として渡米、インディアナ大学で学び、現在はニューヨークを中心に活動している中国人女性歌手で、これは彼女のデビュー作。本格的に歌うジャズ・スタンダード(たとえば「オールド・デヴィル・ムーン」「ブラック・コーヒー」)もあるが、同時にキャロル・キングの曲をカヴァーしたり、台湾のポップ曲を中国語でジャジィに歌うといった面白い試みも聴かせる。だから仕上がりは実にポップ。ジャズとポップの一体化がいい感じだ。神秘的なハスキー・ヴォイスもチャーミング。 (市川正二) --- 2006年04月号

中国生まれのジャズシンガー。珍しい･･･というか、初めてじゃないの？！これを聞いて「sunrise〜」が浮かんできました。ノラ･ジョーンズとかぶるけど良いんじゃないの。
