サンプリングという概念がなかった頃に、イーノとバーンはラジオのトークショー、説教師、アラビア語の歌声をテープにサンプリングして、この作品を作った。バーンは言う。

「ミュージックを作ることで僕らはスイッチをオンにするんだ。実際、驚くべきことに、自分たちが書いたり歌ったりしなくてもありとあらゆる感情を感じさせることができる。ある意味ミュージックを作るということは（うまくいった時には）自分たちとリスナーの感情を掘り起こす建設機械を作るということなんだ。」（付属ブックレットより和訳）

イーノやジョンハッセルとの交流の中でバーンがアフリカ音楽にのめり込んだこと、リメインインライトよりも前にできていたのに、著作権をクリアするのに時間がかかって後になってしまい、一部作り直した話とかおもしろい。（英語）

オリジナルリリースであったQu'Ranがイスラム教の冒涜の恐れで含まれないのは残念！！！だが、音が良くなってMountain of Needlesはツンツンしている。追加の７曲も良いが別ＣＤのほうが良かった。

ジョンケージ→スティーブライヒのテープループ→イーノのミュージックフォアエアポートから連なる音楽史上の重要な作品と考える。

ｲｰﾉ氏とﾊﾞｰﾝ氏の共同名義によるｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ。
ｲｰﾉ氏はそもそも、ｿﾛ名義よりも共同名義の作品の数が多いくらいだから
何も違和感が無い。
再ﾘﾘｰｽにあたり、全面的にﾘﾏｽﾀﾘﾝｸﾞが施されて、各楽器の素材感は勿論、ﾃｰﾌﾟ録音された
ﾗｼﾞｵ音声も極めてｸﾘｱになって蘇った。
但し、ｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙにはあったｺｰﾗﾝの朗読録音部は当局からの圧力からか、削除されている。

また、ｳﾞｨﾃﾞｵ画面の粒子画像のｱｯﾌﾟであったｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙ・ｼﾞｬｹｯﾄのｽﾘｰｳﾞは差し替えされ
同じｳﾞｨﾃﾞｵ粒子画像とはいえ、ﾎﾞｯｸｽ風のﾊﾟｯｹｰｼﾞの中にｼﾞｭｴﾙ･ｹｰｽ盤が入れられている。

同時に没となったｱｳﾄ･ﾃｲｸが数曲ﾎﾞｰﾅｽ･ﾄﾗｯｸとして。
これは、没になるだけのﾄﾗｯｸ達だからあまり魅力はない。

封入されているﾌﾞｯｸﾚｯﾄの記述は詳細であるものの、英語力が極めて低い
私では限界超え。

そのﾌﾞｯｸﾚｯﾄに録音時の貴重な写真が数枚、入っているがｲｰﾉ氏ﾊﾞｰﾝ氏とともに
いつも別の人間が写っている。あれは誰であろうか？

今でいうｻﾝﾌﾟﾘﾝｸﾞ･ﾏｼﾝが無い時代にﾌｨｰﾙﾄﾞ･ﾚｺｰﾃﾞｨﾝｸﾞした、ｱﾌﾘｶ、中東、などの
ｷﾘｽﾄ教以外の国家でのﾗｼﾞｵ放送を主体に、独特のﾌｧﾝｸに被せていく。

ﾊﾞｯｸの演奏陣なども強烈で、当時の最高のｽﾀｼﾞｵ･ﾐｭｰｼﾞｼｬﾝといえるのではないか。

録音時期はT・ﾍｯｽﾞの「ﾘﾒｲﾝ･ｲﾝ・ﾗｲﾄ」の前にされていた筈だが、どうだろう。

つまり、ﾌｧﾝｸ3部作ともいえる本作と「ﾘﾒｲﾝ〜」、それとﾊﾞｰﾝ名義の
「ｷｬｽﾘﾝ･ﾎｲｰﾙ」は演奏陣含め、ほぼ同時に進んでいたのではないだろうか。

同時にｲｰﾉ氏は、ここでのﾌｧﾝｸ感覚を生かしてｼﾞｮﾝ･ﾊｯｾﾙ氏（SAX)とのｺﾗﾎﾞ作も
作り上げている。実はｲｰﾉ氏の音楽的資質に「ﾌｧﾝｸ」という概念は極めて薄く
ﾍｯｽﾞやﾊﾞｰﾝとの交流でﾌｧﾝｸを自分のものにしていったのである。

つまりこの時代はﾌｧﾝｸ、がｷｰﾜｰﾄﾞだとｲｰﾉ氏も認識していた。

それはこのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑが偶然にしろ、生まれた結果、現在までも連綿と続いている。

あの時代を経験した、しないに関わらず誰もが「ﾌｧﾝｸ」の呪縛から逃れられないのである。

nonesuchからの再発で出ていたのは知っていたが今まで価格が下がるまで待っていたもの。この10年以上聴いていなかったにもかかわらずまったく古さを感じないこと、新たに未発表の6曲が加わりうれしい。当時のPVがパソコンで見れるが、フラッシュメモリーで最初はコピーが取れなかったが、sonyの新しい変換ソフトのおかげで音質が向上して対応できるようになったはうれしい限りです。
