3.0 out of 5 stars ２匹目のドジョウっていないもんだなぁ（涙）, 2006/10/4
　Queensrycheの初期アルバム４枚をこよなく愛していた身としては、それ以降のアルバムを買うのにはかなりの躊躇いがありました。悪くない曲をコンスタントに出し続けているとは思うんだけど、曲に勢いが無くなったというか、デ・ガーモの脱退が響いたというか、微妙なところです。買い続けてはいるんだけども、Empireまでしか日々愛聴していませんというのが、このグループに対する私のスタンス。
　そんな訳なので、往年の名盤の続編が出るんだよーんと言われても、手放しでは喜べなかった１人です。だいたい、メッセージ性、一曲一曲の完成度、ついで緻密な構成とどれをとっても文句無しなO:Mを超えられる作品に仕上がっているのか？とついゼータクな事を考えてしまうのです。別に、いまさらこのグループの音楽性の実験について難しい言うつもりは無いのですが、ちゃんといい意味で実験してくれてんのカナ？と心配になることも確か。コンセプトアルバムの続編というとその実験ばっかりしているようなグループのキャラクター（失言？）が生かしにくいんじゃないだろか?とか。

　悩んで、悩んで、買ったものの最初に聴いた感想は「２匹目のドジョウがおらん」。
　２回目に聴いた時は、「ま、いっか」（むっつり）。
　３回目は、「いーんだけどもねえ」（溜め息）。
　聞き込めば聞き込むほど評価は着実に上がるのですが、上がり方に勢いが無いと言おうか、初期アルバム４枚に比べると、最初にガツーンっとくるツカミの衝撃が足りないといおうか。
　作り込み方も悪い訳じゃないし、私的には初期４枚の次に良いアルバムだとも思うんだけど、Queensrycheだったらもっといい線行けたんじゃないの？と思っている自分もいることは確か。守りに入り過ぎたような気もするし、変な意味で裏切られなくて安心みたいな気分もするし...ああ、フクザツ。（笑）

　とりあえず、コンセプトアルバムを作らせたらかなりイイ線にいける ＨＭ／ＨＲ系バンドという定評は、このアルバムによってさらに補強されたとは思いますので、初期４枚以外のQueensrhycheを聴きたい方には、一番のオススメではないかと思います。でも、Operation:Mindcrime度の最高にして最上の衝撃を求めている方はちょっぴりご注意あれ。

ダイナミックかつ繊細。
ドラマティックであり恐ろしくヘヴィ。
ジェフ・テイトの作り出す世界は重く深く、そしてあくまで内面的。
だからこそ、人を惹きつける魔力を持っている。

単なるヘヴィ・メタルアルバムじゃない。
これはオペラであり、1つの芸術作品だと思う。
最後の「All the promises」を聴き終わった後、
心の底から沸き上がってくる涙を止めることができなかった。

1988年の作品を聴いていなかったら、先にそちらを聴くべし。

買って損なし。
否、買って聴くべき作品。

operation mindcrimeが完成度／インパクトともに圧倒的であるため
前作を越えるできとはいえないが、最近の低迷ぶりを忘れさせる快作。

所々に前作のモチーフが散りばめられているので、前作が好きなら楽しめると思います。
