考えてみれば、オレがバブバブいってた頃からプロの作曲家としてヒットを連発し、第一線で活躍し続けてこられたという、そんなものスゴい人である筒美京平さんの仕事を５＋１枚―うち１枚はカバー集―にまとめたもの。なのだが、なんか選曲だとか構成に乱暴というか雑なところがあり、いまひとつ“愛”が感じられないんだよなー。まず、代表的な作品を最初の２枚に凝縮しようとしたようだけど、やっぱりムリがあったようだ。少なくとも、倍の４枚ぐらいは使って、もっとしっかりしたものを提示してほしかった。この２枚だけでは京平さんのことはよくわからない、という気がする。続く２枚は、やや通好みなセン、ということで選曲したのかな、ということはわかるし、もちろんいい曲いっぱいなんだけども、こちらもまた、ちょっと焦点がぼやけているような印象で、素直に楽しめない。ということで、６枚のうち４枚に関しては「（京平さんのことなら）これさえあれば！」というところまでは到達できずに「ちょっと外したな」、という感じで残念。一方、ちあきなおみから玉置成実―たまき・なみ―までという、非常に振幅の大きいカバー集はバラエティー豊かで、意外にもなかなか楽しめた（ストレートなオーケンの「お世話になりました」に、ちょっと感動）。そしてディスク６のレア音源の数々は、内容的にも本当に素晴らしい。これだけで、この箱の価格のかなりの部分を占めている、といっても大げさではないだろう。
なお、CDは２枚ずつ１つのケースに収められており、歌詞などを掲載したブックレットがケースごとについているほか、別冊のブックレットもあり、そちらには京平さんによるミニエッセイ、BSフジ『HIT SONG MAKERS』における京平さんらへのインタビューを活字で再構成したもの、66年「黄色いレモン」から06年「恋のダウンロード」までの作品リスト、などが掲載されている。

「筒美京平の世界」というサブタイトルが示すように，偉大なヒットメーカーである氏の仕事の素晴らしさは伝わってきます．ただ筒美京平ワールドを紹介するにあたって，６枚のCDという構成を選んだ場合，今回の選曲は疑問．

　マニアの方にとっては，レア音源である５枚目，６枚目は貴重なものなのかもしれません，これを入れるために，代表曲を２枚目までに収めようとしていて，単純に筒美京平メロディーを楽しみたいという筒美京平ファンにとって，気持ちのよさが少し損なわれている感じがします．ライナーノーツに収められた氏の膨大な作品リストを見て，そういう気持ちを持ちました．

　初心者の私的には，１〜２枚目の選曲コンセプトで，４枚目まで，３〜４枚目を５枚目１枚に，５〜６枚目を６枚目一枚にくらいのバランスで構成して欲しかったです．

「ブルーライト・ヨコハマ」や「また逢う日まで」をいったい何回買えばいいのでしょうか？？
今回初めて筒美京平の作品に触れるにはマニアックな曲が多すぎますし、コアなファンには有名曲がじゃまになります。
個人的には3枚目以降のディスクしかいりませんが、また買ってしまうのでしょうね。
