PFMの3rd（「幻の映像」を数えれば４th）の英語盤。イタリア盤の方が好きだが、こっちには1stの「九月の情景」の英語バージョンが追加されている。最高傑作との呼び声も高い名盤。非常にドラマチック、極上のポップ感覚と叙情美、ロックとクラシックとジャズが変幻自在に入り乱れつつも、流れる水のような自然さ。74年作。
「マウンテン」はクラシカルで荘厳な混声合唱から始まり、鋭いギターが走り出す。それがやがて物柔らかで雄大な広がりへ。ロマンティックなギター旋律、舞い踊る妖精のようなフルート、シンセに彩られた牧歌的な情景…しかし徐々にテンションを上げ、再びクラシカルなコーラス、鋭く疾走するロック、柔和なパートが行き交う。クラシカルで優美ながらもスリリングで非常にカッコイイ大作。「通り過ぎる人々」は穏やかで柔和、フォーク調の曲。「甦る世界」は1stの「九月の情景」の英語バージョン。憂いのあるフォーク調の曲がメロトロンなどとともに壮大に高揚し、果てない広がりを見せる。感動的！「原始への回帰」はノリがよく明るく祝祭的。次々と表情を変えていくので油断していると置いていかれるが、それでいて聞いていて疲れない優美な趣。名曲！「困惑」は夢の中を漂うような響きから始まって軽快に変転していく。アコーディオンが印象的。「望むものすべては得られない」はジャジーで緊張感に満ちたインスト。新加入のP・ジヴァス（元AREA）のかっこいいベースソロから始まって切れ味のある音を中心に展開するが、最後は美しく壮大な雰囲気になってしめくくる。

イタリアの超絶技巧プログレッシヴロックグループ、PFMのセカンドアルバムで、本国イタリア盤を合わせると通算4枚目のアルバム。本アルバムにはワールドワイド仕様の本作とは別に歌詞がイタリア語のイタリア盤が存在する。また、今回の紙ジャケ再現にあたり、打ち抜かれたジャケットの中央部から島のイラストと荒廃した世界の写真が覗き見れるようにデザインされ、オリジナルアナログ盤の紙の厚みや紙質まで再現された、こだわり抜いた仕様となっている。PFMを語る時、キングクリムゾンの影響を受けた、と紹介されることが多いが、クリムゾンのような沈鬱さは無く、幻想的かつ絵画的で奥行きと深みを持ちながら、イタリアンバロックを感じさせる明るく爽やかな音作りであり、音楽表現から受ける印象はエルドンやアネクドテンの方が遥かにクリムゾンに近い。そういう意味で、あまりクリムゾン的先入観にとらわれず聴かれるのがよいと思う。本作を一言で言えば、「ユーロロックとプログレッシヴロックが高次元で統合された完成度の高いアルバム」ということになる。前作「幻の映像」で感じられた散漫さは感じられず、出すべき音をしっかりと把握し、それをトータルな曲作りに生かした確固たる自信のようなものが感じられる。無駄な音は極力排除し出すべき音をしっかりと出す、そういった音作りが楽曲の良さも相まって聴くものにストレートに訴えかける。ベーシストがイアン・パトリック・ジヴァスに変わったことによりリズムセクションが強化されていることも見逃せない。個々の曲について少し述べると、3 は1stアルバム「幻想物語」の「九月の情景」を新たにレコーディングし直したものであるが、オリジナルのシンフォニックで凝ったアレンジは大幅に整理され、シンプルなアレンジとなっている。PFMはこの後ボーカリストを新メンバーに加え、弱みであった歌唱面が強化されるが、ユーロ的エッセンスは大幅に後退し、よりアメリカナイズされた方向にシフトチェンジしてしまう。そういう意味でもPFMの頂点を捉えたアルバムとしてユーロロックファン、プログレファンに幅広くお勧めしたい傑作アルバムである。

　イタリアを代表するプログレ・バンド、PFMの世界進出二作目となる’７４年発表作。
　前作の編集盤的内容とは異なり、本作は最初から世界進出を狙った内容となっており、3を除く全てが新曲となっている。歌詞も全て英語。

　それにより、作品全体が、さらにまとまりを増し、スケール感がよりアップした印象を受ける。その好例と言うべきが1で、荘厳なコーラスから始まり、徐徐にパワフルなロック・サウンドに移行する様は実に圧倒的だ。
　また、リメイクされた3も、より洗練された形となり、また新たな曲の魅力を引き出す事に成功している。

　バンドの最盛期に作られた本作も、傑作の名に恥じない優れた作品だ。
