世界で最も気持ち良いノイズを奏でる唯一無二のモグワイ。よりハードに、よりエモーショナルになっているが、とてもモグワイらしさがでている。エンビー参加のはそうでもないが(最高の曲ですが)、全体的にハードコアよりになった作品。幅広い分ハードコアふぁんとロックアクション大好きの人とでは曲毎に賛否が別れるかも知れません。お薦めは1、2、3、4、6、8、9。すいません。絞れません。シューゲイザーとは違う形でのノイズ中毒の危険高いです。

「僕達のトレードマークだった『静寂』ｰ>『轟音』のフォーミュラは、
陳腐なものに成り下がってしまった。しかも同じ事をやる連中が
他にも大勢出てきたから、意図的にあの形式はもうやめる事に
したんだ」　〜ステュアート（本作ライナーノーツより抜粋）

個人的には、上記のフォーミュラを意図的に抑えた前々作、前作共に、
モグワイの新たなる側面を開拓した名盤だと思っている。
特に前々作、『Rock Action』に収録されている"2 right makes
1 wrong"の名曲っぷりは、ちょっと尋常じゃない。

で、今作。
#1のエレクトロニクスを使用した抑え目なイントロで始まり、
「ああ今作も大人しめかしら」と油断していたら、
#2から、まるでTenRapid時代に遡ったかのような轟音モードに
シフトチェンジ。更に間を挟んで、ふさいだヴォーカルから一気に
サビへと畳み掛ける#4で昇天。これを静寂ｰ>轟音のフォーミュラ
と呼ばすして何と呼ぼう。他にも、Heliconをアグレッシブに
アレンジしたかのような#8。全編攻撃モードかと思いきや、
ENVYのTetuya氏の日本語Voが、ピアノの美しい旋律と相成って
幻想的な雰囲気を醸し出している#9があったりと、過去２作で
培われた幅の広さも見せ付けている。
が、やはり総体的に目立つのは、非常にアグレッシブな曲の数々。

もしかしたら、これも昨今の音楽シーンに対する何らかの
カウンターアクションか！？　という愚生の深読みも、
ライナーノーツのステュアートの一言によって無用の長物に。

「『静寂』->『轟音』パターンはやり尽くしたと感じて以降、
ぼくたちはミニマルになっていった。でも、ガンガンノイズを
鳴らすのがやっぱり好きだって点に、後になってから気付いた
ってわけ！」

とてもシンプル。それが故に、本能的な部分を刺激する良作。

曲の素晴らしさはいつもどおりなので付属のDVDについて。
ミスター･ビーストのメイキング映像が収録されている。メンバーのギターやエフェクタがチラリと映るのでライブを一度しか見たことのない僕には非常にうれしかった。
しかし、何よりも印象に残ったのはメンバーが使用しているノートパソコンに惣流･アスカ･ラングレーのステッカーがでかでかと貼られていたことw
ガッツりとした爆音ギターノイズと同じぐらいエレクトロニカの曲も素晴らしいモグワイ。流石、分かってらっしゃる!
