トリノ五輪のエキシビションで荒川静香が使った曲「You Raise Me Up」も収録されているアルバム。私が最初に聞いたのは2.3ヶ月前に車のCMで「Harry's Game」が使われていた時。Sara Brightman を好きな私には気になる人だった。ソロだと思っていたのだが5人の女性が歌っているらしく、5人それぞれが柔らかで伸びのある綺麗な声なので聞いていて、とても心地良い。Celtic Woman というタイトルからも分かるようにケルト地方の楽曲を歌い上げているので、バグパイプのリズミカルな音の中に教会の聖歌の荘厳さがあった。この日本版はBonus Live Tracksが2曲入った全20曲。Live Versionなんていいわという方には輸入版。Bonus Live Tracksの2曲と歌詞の対訳ライナーノーツが欲しい方は、輸入版に500円程度プラスしたお値段の日本版。Bonus Trackといっても2曲（しかも、Live Version）なので、お値段とライナーノーツが欲しいかどうかで買う盤を決められてもいいかと思います。堅過ぎず、くだけ過ぎず、伝統音楽の世界を楽しめる1枚。

最近ケルト文化に興味を持っています。ケルトやアイルランドに関するいろいろな本や音楽を探しているとこの『ケルティック・ウーマン』という素晴らしいＣＤに巡り会いました。

アイルランド出身の女性５人がユニットを結成しており、このＣＤは、アメリカのヒット・チャートのワールドミュージック部門で３０週にわたり１位を獲得したそうで、その音楽的な魅力は十二分に感じました。
クロエ、リサ、メイヴ、オーラの４人による伸びやかで透明感のあるソプラノは、ケルトに伝わる「妖精」のようであり、万人に愛される歌声だと思います。

何曲かゲール語の歌詞で歌われていますし、マレードが演奏するフィドルによって遥か古から脈々と流れるケルト音楽の雰囲気が感じられました。癒しという簡単なフレーズで片付けられないほどの歴史や民俗の奥深さを感じました。

映画「タイタニック」でもケルト風音楽が多用されたこともあり、エンヤの音楽が日本でも愛されていますので、ここに収録されている音楽を耳にするケースも多いと思います。

女子フィギュアの荒川静香選手が、このＣＤに収録されてある「ユー・レイズ・ミー・アップ」をエキシビションに使用したことは有名ですね。

「ダニー・ボーイ」や「アヴェ・マリア」、「主よ、人の望みの喜びよ［ライヴ］」というお馴染みの曲も聴くことが出来ますので、「ケルト」というキーワードにこだわらず、とても親しみやすいアルバムに仕上がっています。

荒川選手のエクシビション、白虎隊のドラマ、それに小雪さんのヴィーガ(であってる？)のＣＭと、様々な場面で使用されているYou Raise Me Upを聞きたかったのが入手した理由ですけど、やはりYou Raise Me Upには泣かされました…。心の中の汚い感情を洗われるような感覚で、聞くたびに涙が出そうです。
他にもSnowmanでおなじみのWalking in the Air やアヴェ・マリアなど、素晴らしい曲ばっかりです。カバーが気になるという意見もありましたが、個人的には声がオリジナリティ溢れていることもあって逆に味があっていいかな、と思いました。
