個人のプログラマ向けに、幅広いアプリケーションのプログラミングを支援する機能を提供する統合開発ソフト。Visual Basic、C++、C#、そしてJ#(Java言語)により、WindowsやWebアプリケーションに加えて、Windows CE/Mobileアプリケーションのプログラミングが行える。充実したプログラミング支援機能を搭載し、コードの候補を自動的に表示するIntelliSenseのほか、メニューに表示されるタスクを選択するだけで、目的に応じたコードの雛形を自動的に挿入できるコードスニペットを搭載。また、構文エラーに対しては説明やコード修正候補が提示され、更にはコードの自動修正も行える。また、プログラミングが正しく行なえているかの動作確認(デバック)はビジュアルに行うことができ、さらに、実行時エラーの原因および対策を提示する機能に加えて、デバッグ時に行ったコードの修正をダイナミックに反映してデバッグを続行できるエディットコンティニュの機能も搭載している。また、UMLクラス図と同様のクラスモデリングを行うことができるクラスデザイナ機能を搭載しており、作成したクラス図に対応したコードが自動的に生成されるほか、コードを変更すると同時に、その変更がクラス図にも反映される。個人プログラマ向けのStandard Edition。学生、教職員、教育機関向けのアカデミックパック。

まずはじめに気に入ったのは、VisualBasic、Visual C#、Visual C++、Visual J#の四つの言語が自由に選んでつかうことができることです。二つ目は、SQL Server やモバイル開発環境(Windows Mobile対応)、ASP.NET、XMLなどを使ったWebアプリケーション開発環境など充実した機能を使い、幅広い開発が可能になったことです。また、この機能があれだけの値段で使えるというのはとてもすごいと思います。しかもパッケージにはVS2005のほかにMSDNライブラリと.NET Framework2.0 SDKまで入っているのはもっとすごいです。

Visual Studio 2005の基本セットであるExpress EditionならMSから無償ダウンロード可能なので、ちょっとさわってみたい人はそちらを選ぶのが吉。
無論こパッケージ版にはパッケージ版の良さ（マニュアルがつくなど）もあるのでアカデミック版を買える立場の人はこちらを選んでも良いと思う。

かなりお得なソフトウェアだと思います。
なんといっても、4つの言語(Visual C++,Basic,C#,J#)を収録してあるところがとてもいいです。
他にも補助機能も充実していてエラーを適切に指示してくれます。
普通に買うと30000円しますが、アカデミックなので5000円で買えてお得！
プログラミング言語をやってみたいと思っている方から本格的に学びたい方まで、どなたでも満足できると思います。
