長渕剛の作品の中で最も大切なアルバムです。

裏切り、中傷が渦巻く中、事件で全てが終わってしまったかのように思えたその後、提出されたこのアルバムは驚く程澄んだ音を聴かせててくれました。
タイトル曲でもある『家族』は、良い曲とか、名曲などと簡単には言えません。呆然としてしまう唄です。

音楽とは聞き流すものと思ってる人には苦痛なアルバムかも知れませんが、こんな歌を唄う人ももう少し必要なのでは。

「自分を裏切った他人を責める前に、ファンを裏切った自分を責めるべきでは・・・」
他の方も書かれているように発表当時（あの事件の起きた年の暮れ）、このアルバムにそんな疑問を抱く人が多かった。
かく言う僕も、全くそう感じなかったと言えば嘘になるだろう。
しかし数年後、人間関係に神経をすり減らし、周囲への不信感や孤立感に苛まれていた時に改めて聴き直したら、不覚にも泣いてしまった。そんな時に聴くと心に響く一枚。
彼の全作品中で詞の文学性（後年、筋肉の量が増すのと反比例して失われていってしまった）が一番強いのはこのアルバムでしょう。中也や朔太郎のそれに通じるトーンがあります。

一番好きな曲は「友よ」である。これは剛さんが俺に投げかけているのではと思いながら聴いている。友よ　君たちは今、汗をかかなくなったね…の歌詞を聴くといつも自分が真剣に生きているかを問う機会となる。そう、俺にはこれは自己啓発の歌なのだ。だからいつも身が引き締まる。そしてその後に「家族」がくるからたまらない曲順である。いつも思うが、曲順も完璧なんだよ剛さんは。じっくり聴いてしまう曲が多い。迷うな。買え。
