Jeff Beckは、彼の作品を聴いて分かるように、ホントにいろんな音楽を聴いている人なんですね。ファンクやブラックミュージックやR&Bもとても好きなようで、この「Rough And Ready」ではその色（特にモータウンの影響）がよく現れています。Jeff Beckが特に好きなファンクやソウルミュージシャンは、Stevie Wonder,Sly & The Family Stone,Cutis Mayfieldなどです。
第二期Jeff Beck Groupの1作目ですが、何と言ってもこのアルバムの聴き所は、Jeff Beckとドラムのコージーパウエルとの掛け合いですね。ボブテンチの哀愁漂うボーカルもいい感じです♪黒っぽいリフを主体とした曲が基本になっています。

アルバムタイトルが良くなかったのかな、もっと評価されて良いアルバムだと思います。ベックのかっこいいフレーズが聞けます。「ガッツザフィーリング」「シチュエイション」の２曲が好きですね。ベックだけでなくマックスミドルトンのエレピもいい。

歌モノのベックでは一番好きなアルバムです。
この次のオレンジアルバムをベックの最高作とする人も多いみたいですが、わたしはダントツでこちらのほうが好きです。（同じソウル路線でも、ちょっと作風が違いますね。）

なにより第1期ベックグループから一皮むけたかのようなベックのギターが素晴らしい！
2曲目「situation」のエキセントリックさとソウルフルさ満点のプレイ。「new ways〜train train」の爽快さ。「jody」での壮大なスライドプレイ。
全編、スケールの大きいベックのギターが満喫出来る内容です。

コージーのパワフルなドラムもカッコ良い。彼のドラムが１人、ハードロックしてます。（笑）。
ボーカルのボブテンチは知られた存在ではないでしょうが、彼の渋ソウルな歌声が大好きになって、私はコレを聴いた学生の頃ソウルミュージックにハマッて行くようになりました。

ギタリストの観点だけでなく、ソウルロックアルバムとして歴史に名が残るようなアルバムだと思います。
なにより、このジャケット！男、ツワモノ5人の顔。煙た〜い雰囲気で大好きです。
