ギタリスト Lance Fergusonを筆頭に、Ben Grayson（ハモンドオルガン） Danny Farrugia（ドラム）、Yuri Pavlinov（ベース）、Anton Delecca（サックス／フルート）そしてRoss Irwin（トランペット）から成るオーストラリア発のインストゥルメンタルJazzFunkバンド、The Bamboosのデビューアルバム。

インストゥルメンタル・ヒップホップが好きでそっち方面のルートから本作を手にした自分だったが、もう腰が抜けるところだった。全曲を通してドラムとベースが全体を引っ張っていく展開はタイトかつグルーヴィ。このリズム隊を軸に鍵盤とホーンが絶妙なタイミングで絡む構成は見事というしかない。フロア対応でありながら、決して音が派手になることはなく夜に一人で聴いても耳障りにならない。これは削るべき音をしっかり分かってるからこそできる業で、"引き算"の美学とでも言おうか。

現在、音楽業界全体が混沌した状況を抜け出せないでいるのは、商業的に潤うことを優先させてきた結果、音を重ねて派手にする"足し算"方式の音で溢れかえってしまったからだ。本作ではその全てを本質に戻している。ドラムとベース…鍵盤とホーン…、シンプルな楽器構成で凄くいい音楽を作り出せる。Mr Screff、Snowboy、Jazzanova、Keb Darge、Russ Dewburyといった世界中のアーティスト達から絶賛されるのも頷けるし、世界中見渡しても他に類を見ないバンドである。
