結論から。現在10.3をお使いなら、無理にアップグレードする必要は無いと思います。10.2以前をお使いなら、全体的な高速化が見込めます。

■良い点

・高速化
3DCG等の描画がスムーズになります。が、OS全体としてはそれほど高速になったという印象はありません（10.3に比べて）。

・安定性
私のPowerBook G4 (1.25G)ではOSが固まることは滅多にありません。PCカードスロットから無理矢理カードを取り外したときは、さすがに固まってしまいましたが。

・様々な追加ソフト
（注意：このパッケージにiLifeは含まれていないので、最新版のiPhoto等が必要な場合は別途iLifeを購入する必要があります）
素早い検索が可能なSpotlight、ウィジェットという小さなプログラムをまとめて使えるDashboard、ビデオ会議が可能になるiChat AV、繰り返し作業の自動化が可能になるAutomator等が目玉でしょうか。しかし、いずれも本当に必要なソフトなのかが問題です。私はほとんど使っていません。

・使用可能なフリーウェアが増える
10.4以降でないと実行できないフリーウェアが増えてきていますので、これに対応できます。


■悪い点

・Spotlightはそれほど高速でもない上に、システムファイルを検索できません
・最新版Safariが不安定
　（フリーウェア Firefoxを使っています：10.3でも使えます）
・標準メールソフトであるMailが使いづらい
　（フリーウェア Thunderbirdを使っています：これも10.3でも使えます）
・PowerBookにインストールすると、冷却ファンが回りやすくなります。ちょっとうるさいです。

私のPowerBookだけなのかもしれませんが、Mac OSXは、まれにディスクアクセスが突然始まり、極端にパフォーマンスが落ちることがあります。Spotlightの索引作成かと思いましたが、切っても同じでした。

色々な関連ソフトの関係上、Tiger をクリーンインストールしました。
アップグレードインストールだと以前からの問題点等も引き継いでしまうので....　起動はかなり早くなりました。全体的にスピードもアップ。　　しかしフリーズが多い！　OS9からOS10.2.8に移った時には
”オ〜Macはフリーズしなくなったんだ！”とビックリしたのですが
なんでもないところで良くフリーズしてくれます。最近Tigerユーザーになった友人もぼやいておりましたが....更なるアップデートが必要のようですね。

Windowsのみを長らく使っていましたが，最近Macと併用するようになりました．有線・無線ともにネットワーク機能は充実しており，Windowsとのファイル・プリンタ共有は何の問題もなく実現されています．Mac OS XはベースがUnixなので他のUnixマシンとの接続も実にスムース．Unixのオープンソースツールが普通に使えてしまうのは驚きを超えて感動すらします．これに加えてキュートなGUIがあるので，十二分の満足度です．
