   1959年、アメリカの名門全寮制高校。生徒たちは、伝統と規律や親の期待に縛られながら、冷めためた気持ちで日々をやり過ごしている。そこに同校OBの教師キーティング(ロビン･ウィリアムス)が赴任してくる。マジメ腐った詩の教科書を破り捨てさせ、机に上に立ち、生きる視点を変えることを教えるキーティング。彼の授業を通して、生徒たちは自らを自由に語り合うようになり、自分の道を歩みだす。だが、彼らの前に厳しい現実の壁が立ちはだかる…。
   エリート高校生たちが、教師の言葉や詩に触発されてトキメキを感じ、生き生きと変わっていく姿は感動的。芸達者であるがゆえ、過剰になりがちなロビン・ウィリアムスは、本作では抑えた演技で作品に奥行きを与えている。全編にあふれる詩と、生徒たちの心の変化を暗喩する四季折々の映像が美しい。（茂木直美）

　かつて、これ程感銘を受けた映画もない。
　映画全体が、すごい事を語っている。
　この衝撃は、今までになかったと言える。
　そう、自由。自由とは何か。かたちにないもの・・・。だから素晴らしい。
　この先生は、授業が上手だ。ただ、この自由が抑えられなかった。若者は脆弱であるがゆえに、自由のつかまえ方が、上手にできない。あの悲劇の場面は、そのすべてを象徴する。
　詩・・・。僕はこの映画を観るまで、詩には特別な関心がなかったし、国語も得意ではなかった。いまも得意ではないが、人生の絶境に立ち尽くし、冷たい強風を頬に受けながら、自由を創り上げなくはならない。その青白い心が詩である、とこの映画を観て感じたところです。
　この当時は、意外と出来のいい教化的な映画がいっぱいあったと思います。
　この映画は、今でも繰り返して観ますね。
　好きです。

初めて見たのは高校時代。先のことばかり考えていた当時でした。すごく影響を受けた映画です。
自分に重なる部分があったので、ショックが大きかったのでしょうか。ぼろ泣きでした。

学生に、先生に、親に、見てもらいたい映画です。

こんなに心に残る映画は他にないかもしれない。

古い体質、世間体、将来、何歳になっても悩みは尽きませんね。
でも本当に大切なものは何かを気づかせてくれるとても良い映画だと思います。
悲しすぎる結末だけれど、胸が苦しくなるような感動が味わえる名作です。

ロビン・ウィリアムスも若いけれど、イーサン・ホークも若い！
今は有名になった俳優がたくさん出ているのも楽しみの１つですね。
