A unique concept underlies Cyberpunk, Tbilisi, Georgia-based Nika Machaidze's full-length Erast debut for Berlin's Laboratory Instinct. If that beginning sounds particularly cinematic in nature, the album as a whole exudes an equally bold sensibility, with each one of its sixteen tracks an evocative mini-soundtrack for the mind. Throughout Cyberpunk, Erast's music bursts with multi-layered interweaves of staccato, classically-tinged melodies in compositions that are intricate, at times labyrinthine. The album presents a diverse universe of sound collages, sparkling carousels, rambunctious gamelan settings, and mesmerizing reveries of cascading harps, silken strings, and bright piano flourishes.
