ディズニーは『High School Musical』でプラチナ・ディスクを達成した。元々はディズニー・チャンネルで絶大なる人気を誇ったケーブルテレビ用の映画で、そのサウンドトラックが絶大なる人気を生んでいるのだ。『Grease』を彷彿とさせる内容で、粗筋はふたりの生徒(ザック・エフトンとヴァネッサ・ハジェンス)が休暇中に恋に落ち、その後同じハイスクールに通うことになるのだが、別々のグループに属していることを知るというものだ。ラッキーにも、ふたりとも歌うことが好きだ。曲は典型的なディズニーのポップ。刺激はないがよくできていて、イチゴ味のガムのようにあなたの頭にくっついて離れない。聞きどころはバスケのゲームからきしむスニーカーの音や、弾むボールの音、ホイッスルの音といったノイズを取り入れて高い効果をあげている「Get'cha Head in the Game(邦題「大切なのはバスケット!」)」、1970年代のピアノ・ポップへのいかしたトリビュート「What I've Been Looking For(邦題「最高のパートナー」)」、昔ながらのショー風のチューン「Stick to the Status Quo(邦題「今までどおりが一番」)」。音楽は"熱唱"を試みるところになると(グロリア・エステファン風の標準以下の「Bop to the Top(邦題「ボップ・トゥ・トップ」)」)つまずいてしまうが、全体としてこのCDはキッズたちをジャンプさせて楽しく一緒に歌わせてくれる。ボーナストラックにR&BのグループB5による「Get'cha Head in the Game」のリプライズと、こうしたCDにふさわしく、ヒット曲の「Start of Something New(邦題「始まりの予感」)そして「Breaking Free(邦題「自由をつかめ」)」のカラオケが収録されている。--Elisabeth Vincentelli

ディズニーチャンネル制作のテレビ映画『ハイスクール・ミュージカル』のオリジナルサウンドトラック。
日本では夏休みへ向け、2006年8月に
ディズニー専門チャンネル『ディズニーチャンネル』にて、本編が封切りされました。

──自分には、もう定まった夢や進むべき道、やるべきことがある。
そう信じて何も疑わなかった、バスケ部のエースで人気者トロイと、保守的で優等生な数学少女ガブリエラ。
この遠いようでいて同じ境遇にあった二人が、歌を通して出逢い、
友人や学校中を巻き込みながら、「新しい夢」へ挑戦し、
自分と共に、まわりへ素敵な変化を起こしていきます。

人は、常に「新しい自分になりたい」と願うものですが、
いざ変われるチャンスが目の前にくると、しり込みしてしまったり、
思わぬ壁で立ち止まってしまったりと、なかなか自分が考えているようには、上手くはいかないものです。

この『ハイスクールミュージカル』は、そういった『人生の転機』というものを、
学園ドラマの純粋な恋愛や友情、そして、元気の良いダンスと華やかな音楽でつづった気持ちの良い映画です。
そんな映画のサウンドトラックなだけあり、またアメリカでの人気もうなづけるように、
このアルバムも大変に素晴らしいものだと思います。

特に、9曲目の『みんなスター!（We're All in This Together）』は、
耳にするだけでも、学園祭や運動会、そういった数々のイベントにワクワクした頃の
学生時代の懐かしくも元気で力強い自分が、またよみがえってくるようです。

少しばかり頑張りすぎて疲れちゃったけれども、
やはり自分の好きなことを貫きたい、夢へ向かってまだまだ進んでいきたい、
そんな風に思える方へ、心の奥底から湧き上がるような活力をくれるこのアルバムと、
そして、映画、共に、オススメしたい気持ちです。

曲はどれも最高です！！　思わず口ずさんでしまうものばかりです。特に８曲目のBreaking Freeは、ビルボードチャートで一週間で８２ランクアップという歴代急上昇記録まで作ってしまいました！　当然このサントラも１位を獲得しています。　ただ、主演のザック・エフロンは歌ってないんですよね…。他の子たちはみんな自分で歌ってるのに…。ザックのパートはAndrew Seelyというシンガーが吹き替えをしています。でも曲の出だしのみではザックの声が聞けます。よく聞くと途中から声が変わってるのが分かりますよ。（笑）　映画ではよく自然にできてました。　来年はパート２をやるらしいので、今から楽しみです。

映画を見てバネッサとザックの歌声がとても良かったので買いました。トラック１と３と７と８歌いきったらかなり気分がいいです。最後にカラオケが2曲入ってますよ。
