ザ・ヴァーヴはブリッツポップの一位になるまで、成功の連続、世界一の祝歌と、戦い続けてきたが、解散以来ヴォーカルのリチャード・アシュクロフツの詩才はあまり日のめを見なくなってきていた。最近では、「ワーイ・ノット・ナッシング」での強気で頑固な歌詞が記憶に残る。アシュクロフトの、クラシック調で感情の込もった新しい曲作りは、以前のブリティッシュ・ポップの荒々しさがなくなっている。「キーズ・ツー・ザ・ワールド」はウェラーズの2000アルバムの「ヘリオセントリック」と同じだけ儲けたはずだ。それにしても主な見所は二箇所あり、ひとつはついうっとりしてしまう「ワーズ・ジャスト・ゲッツ・イン・マイ・ウェイ」で、コールドプレイの「フィックス・ユー」ヴァイオリンの華麗な吹奏と似て、泣ける曲だ。もうひとつのハイライトは、アシュクロフトが、「また僕の人生は何もかもがうまくいきだした」と歌う、「ワールド・キープス・ターニング」で、この曲は、最後の曲として、誇り高くそしてあっという間にこのアルバムを終わらせてくれる。

ずっと追いかけてきて良かった。
私の場合はサラッとＢＧＭには出来ない。
彼の世界が私の心を掻き乱す。
けれど聴く度に何故か救われるような気持ちにもなる。
verveを聴いたことがある方ならば世界観は説明しなくても
解ると思いますが、ずっと変わらない世界感を持ちながら
パワーアップしているrichard ashcroftにこれからも
不思議な気持ちで癒されたいと思います。
「music is power」を聴いた瞬間に買ってよかった！という
気持ちと安心した気持ちと…ちょっと鳥肌たちました（笑

昨今のデジタルオーディオの普及から観て
CCCDという忌まわしきメディアにしたのは
頂けません。時流に逆行しているとは思わないのでしょうか？
アルバムがポップで良いので、尚更CCCDは悔やまれます。
レコードメーカーの方々は、余り周囲を観てないのでしょう。

Richard AshcroftやThe Verveに特別造詣が深いわけでもなく
日常的にはリズムが立った音楽を好むのですが、淡々とミディアムテンポで貫かれるこのアルバムに何故か惹かれます。
無骨な良さはブリティッシュ勢ならではと思いますが、ここまで腰が据わってるのはそうないんじゃないでしょうか。

音楽はシンプルながらモダンで滋味深いもの。先鋭性はなくとも聞き飽きることはありません。
星５個は嘘っぽいので４つにしますが、個人的にはこの先も聞き続けることは間違いなし。
本当に良いアルバムです。
