　ソ連のチェルノブイリで原発事故が起こったのは1986年4月26日でした。この衝撃的な事件の後にRCサクセションは反原発的内容の替え歌「Love Me Tender」を録音しましたが、当時東芝EMIの親会社の東芝と電力会社に関係があったため圧力がかかり、1988年6月に「素晴らしすぎて発売できません」というコピーと共に発売中止になりました（結局シングル・アルバム共に1988年8月にキティより発売）。また当時飛ぶ鳥を落とす勢いだったブルーハーツも「チェルノブイリ」を発表できずインディーズから発売しています（1988年7月1日）。
　こうした経緯のなかで結成されたキヨシローが率いる「謎の覆面バンド」がタイマーズでした。歌詞の内容は当時の世相との関連が強いものが多く、「Long Time Ago」は「反原発」、「偉人の歌」「ロックン仁義」はこの「発売拒否事件」を歌ったもの、「総理大臣」は当時愛人問題のため僅か68日で退陣した宇野宗佑総理大臣を揶揄した歌で、「カプリオーレ」はなんと1989年2月24日の昭和天皇の葬儀「大喪の礼」での高速道路封鎖などの騒ぎを嘲笑したものでした。
　しかし、このアルバムの中ですごいのはやはり「3部作」でしょう。まず「深刻な問題（原発）」の存在を指摘し、次に「なにもかわらない」「あれ（反原発）はただのブームだ」と諦念を表明、最後に「ブームに便乗するぜ！」というふてぶてしく開き直る、というとんでもないメドレーとなっています。
　反原発ソングの騒動に関しては（特にロック・ファンに対して）当時から「特に行動もしないくせに"反権力"の気分を味わっている」という非難がありましたが、この「3部作」はそうした批判を軽く飛び越えて超然としてたキヨシローらしい、痛快なロック的反論であったように思います。
　なお、オトは70年代のRCサクセションとは異なる印象の、アコースティックをメインとしたもので、それもまた面白かったです。

時の世はバンドブーム。ボーカルのゼリーはＲＣサクセションのアルバムが発売禁止（結局他の会社から発売されました）になったことに怒り、勢いでタイマーズを結成しブームにビンジョーしてライブイベントで大暴れした。
本来持っているモノが違うので新人バンドながら他のタテノリバンドなど全然と言っていいほど問題にならなかった。
即席で作ったような歌が多いのに実はよく出来ていて感心させられる。
一聴する価値あり。


ＲＣは「もしもオイラが偉くなったら、偉くないヤツとはつきあいたくない」と歌っていましたが、タイマーズは「もしも僕が偉くなったなら、偉くない人をバカにしたりしない」と歌っています。
歌詞がすごいです、いろんな意味で。

遂にキヨシローは死んでしまいました。
心から哀悼の意を表したいと思います。以前のテレビのインタビューで、「俺達って、学校で、日本は民主主義で自由の国だ、と教わってきたけど、それがウソだって気がついた時はショックだった」と言ってましたが、これこそロックの原点です。

やはりリベラルだった友人の中島らもが生前、ロックは形式じゃない、と語っていたけど、この作品も音楽のファッション化と商業主義で堕落した日本ロック界を叩き直す不滅の名盤となりました。

楽曲の内容は、
●原子力の偽善と危険
●格差問題となって表層化した「巧妙に隠された」階級問題
●官僚の犬と化している政治家批判
など、普遍的で身近な課題ばかり。それを普段使いの率直な言葉で言いたい放題にまとめあげました。高度な演奏技術に裏打ちされた音楽内容とあいまって見事なロックの世界を作り上げることに成功している奇跡のようなアルバムです。安部内閣以来ファッショ化の進む現・日本に最も必要とされている「処方箋」のひとつだと言えるのではないでしょうか。
