8bitサウンドアーティスト、YMCKが2nd Albumをリリースしてました。ジャケット見た途端に即効ゲット。
改めて紹介しますと、YMCKは往年のファミコンサウンドを思わせるレトロな音色を使いながらも、とってもフューチャー全開なポップミュージックを聴かせてくれるアーティストなのです。

今回もレトロサウンド炸裂。今度は「ファミリーレーシング」というレースゲームに扮して、まるでゲームの音をそのまま引っ張り込んできたような作品でした。
Tr.01から懐かしい雰囲気のメロディが流れて来たと思ったら、ちゃんとゲーム画面でのメッセージ表示の音まで付いてます。続くTr.02ではサーキットのカウントダウンと共にエキゾースト音が…素敵。

頭からシッポまでとことん8bitサウンドです。その姿勢が2nd Albumでも貫かれていたのには感動。これぞYMCKって感じです。
でもアルバム聴いてるとね、ホントにファミコンのサウンドトラックを聞いてる気がしてくるんですよね。ライナーノーツも説明書みたいだし。フェミニンなヴォーカルが無かったら確実にゲーム音楽になってるとこでした。
そうそう、ちょっと残念だったのが、アルバムのコンセプトに合わせたために「ゲームサントラ」的な調子になってしまったとこ。
前作「FAMILY MUSIC」ではジャズナンバーっぽいアプローチがされた曲とかあって、もっと聞き応えあったんだけど。少し綺麗にまとまり過ぎちゃった寂しさがありました。ワガママなリスナーでゴメン。

唯一無二。マンネリってなんですか？って具合に飛ばしてるYMCKです。お得な限定BONUS DISCと一緒に、早めにゲットだー！

80年代のゲームミュージックを知っている私には心に響くものがなかった。

所詮はゲームの音楽だからそこまでシリアスにならんでも…という考えが普通なのかもしれない。

しかし、あの当時にファミコンのサードパーティーでは任天堂を軽く凌ぐサウンドを作っていたコナミ矩形波倶楽部やカプコンのサウンドチーム、ナムコの増子司さんの諸作品と比べるとどうしてもあと一歩という感じが抜けきれない。

現代技術は進歩しているのだから、真似するだけではなく今の時代の解釈と往年のサウンドに立ち向かうくらいのアグレッシブさが欲しかった。

具体的にはファミコン後期のツインビー3、ファルシオン、がんばれゴエモン、ロックマン2、これらといい勝負をするくらいのモノでないと。

多分そこまでの作品になったらボーカルはいらなくなるだろうけど。

下北沢のビレッジバンガードで流れててそのまま即買い！
ファミコンミュージックっぽいテクノにジャズとロリポップな音楽が融合したという感じだろうか。
元ファミコン坊主には何ともいえない懐かしさがこみ上げてくる。

やたらマッシブなテクノや、やたら難解なジャズに
飽きているような方に、このアルバムは一服の清涼剤になるだろう。

ボーカルのハスキーな声が音楽を引き立てていてとてもよい。
ファミコン世代の方は買って損はないと思う。
