本物の一流ジャズミュージシャンを俳優として起用した映画、「ラウンド・ミッドナイト」のサントラ盤です。テナー・サックス奏者のデクスター・ゴードンが主役、音楽プロデューサーにハービー・ハンコック（俳優としても出演してます）。これでも充分豪華なメンバーなのですが、脇を固めるサイドメンがこれまたすごい。チェット・ベイカー、ロン・カーター、ビリー・ヒギンス、フレディ・ハバード、ボビー・ハッチャーソン、ジョン・マクラフリン、ウェイン・ショーター、トニー・ウィリアムスなどなど。この超豪華な面々が揃って悪い演奏のわけがありません。
なお、いちおうデクスター・ゴードン名義ですが、デックスが参加していない曲も数曲あります。アルバムをとおしてハービー・ハンコックがリーダーで、デックスが大フィーチャーされているといった印象でしょうか。すごく良さそうでしょ？

デクスター・ゴードンを全面的にフューチャーし，パド・パウエルのパリでの音楽活動と
パリジャン達との友情を描いた映画のサウンドトラック。
音楽プロデュースはハービー・ハンコックが担当。あくまで吹き替え無しにリアルな演奏を披露し，
ジャズ映画／サウンドトラックとして，最高の出来映えとなっている。
豪華なパーソネル陣も，今となっては故人の多いこの映画こそ
２０世紀最後の素晴らしいジャズ映画として輝き続ける。＿＿

その豪華陣は
デクスター・ゴードン（テナー・サックス），チェット・ベイカー（ヴォーカル，トランペット）
ロン・カーター（ベース），ハービー・ハンコック（ピアノ），フレディ・ハワード（トランペット）
ボビー・ハッチャーソン（ヴァイブ），ウェイン・ショーター（ソプラノ＆テナー・サックス）
ボビー・マクファーリン（ヴォーカル），トニー・ウィリアムス（ドラム）ジョン・マクラフリン（ギター）

などなど＿。うーん，しびれます！
