「こんなのSTROKESじゃなくてもできる」「何の革新性も感じられない」なんていう辛辣な意見も目にするけれど、これだけ奔放なプレイスタイルを提示し、かつ随所で激しい熱情を迸らせながら、それでいて全体を覆うアーティスティックな雰囲気は微塵も損なっていない、このアルバムは、やはり、彼らにしか作りえないと私は思う。

乾いたギターリフが小気味良く刻み込まれ、リズム隊が軽やかに弾ける"You Only Live Once"で幕開け、鈍く輝くメタリックリフとジュリアンのドランキーな歌い回しが炸裂、新たな表情を剥き出すTr.2"Juicebox"で良くも悪くも聴き手を惹きつける。機会の如く精緻なドラミングの上、唄うギターフレーズと歌い上げるジュリアンの声がシンクロする"Heart In A Cage"、中盤・終局にてギター/ベース/ドラムの3者がズバリと見栄をきる瞬間の昂揚感に背筋がザワつく。サビのリフレインが緩やかに気分を昂揚させるTr.5"On The Other Side"からまたまたヘヴィ・メタリックな早弾きフレーズが全体を牽引する"Vision Of Division"へ、メロトロンの柔らかな響きにジュリアン・カサブランカスの熟したヴォーカルが溶け込むレトロ・ムーディーなTr.7"Ask Me Anything"周辺では作品にロマンティックな芳香が広がる。と同時に非常に熱い。Tr.10"Fear Of Sleep"、"Ize Of The World"などでの「胸をえぐる」ような熱を孕んだジュリアンのヴォ-カライゼーションには、従前のスノッブな雰囲気など微塵も感じられない。巧さと熱情、そして時代の持つ空気を絶妙に取り込んだ良盤。

００年代を代表するロックアーティストと言っても過言ではないでしょう。彼らは世紀末までのロックの流れを変えました。クラシックなロックンロールの感覚を、オマージュや、ましてや物真似とも言えない、最高にモダンな形で提示し、多くの熱狂者や多くの「自称」音楽玄人ぶったアンチを生み出しました。しかし、これこそがスターの証ともいえるでしょう。

１ｓｔでは様々な音楽性を感じさせながらも、極めてシンプルに削ぎ落としたサウンドファクターを用い、２ｎｄではよりカラフルなギターテクストの面白さやリズムパターンの妙などを見せてきました（この辺、個人的解釈ですので悪しからず）。そして、この３ｒｄなのですが・・。

まず間違いなく言えるのは、これまでの作品の中でもっとも「濃い」ものになっているということです。単純な演奏技術の向上や、キャリアの積み重ねによって、より彼ら自身が自分たちの表現を音に表そうとしているものが具体的になってきたのだと思います。全ての楽器が「ジュリアン主導」の今までと違い、メンバーそれぞれの感性をぶつけ合いながら、より深みのあるフレーズになっていて、楽曲に今まで以上の深みを与えています。この「濃さ」や「深さ」に、初めは戸惑うかもしれません。しかし、多くの人が感じたであろう、初めて１ｓｔを聴いたときの「これなのか？」という感覚、そしてファンとなった人が感じた、「これだ！」という答え、それがまさにここにもあります。
