意欲的な先鋭的サウンドもさることながら歌詞が非常に興味深い作りになっています。
サイレンというのはジャケットからも分かるように踏切でかんかん鳴るあれのことらしいです。
サイレンが鳴っている間、通行者は踏切の中には入れません。一方でサイレンが鳴っているということは踏切の向こうに電車が存在していることを示してもいます。
このように拒絶の意思表示であると同時に存在証明でもあるサイレンをこの歌詞では非常に巧みに使って歌の世界を構築しています。
現代においてよく見られる少年少女の関係を精妙に表現することに成功しています。

Vo.後藤氏が、「この曲はアジカン最高傑作だ」と日記で断言する名曲。
事実、そうなのだと思います。

『君という花』が売れた後、一発屋になるかならないかの瀬戸際、その状況をひっくり返すにふさわしい一枚。

複雑に絡み合うギターの音、加速していくドラムス、この曲の主人公(男)が、ヒロインに向けて発せられるラストのワンフレーズは、ヒロインだけでなく、聴いている私たちにも浴びせかけられるようで、グっときます。
「２つで１つ」のこの曲は、決してＡ面になっているバージョンだけで聴かず、カップリングまでちゃんと聴いてこそ。

余談ですが、同時にこの『サイレン』を慣らすと、絶妙なタイミングでギターが追いかけあったり、ボーカルが重なり合ったり呼びあったりするので、お勧めです。

いわずとしれた名盤です。
私は初めて聴いた時、身体中の毛が逆立つほどの衝撃を受けました。
今更レビューを書く必要もないかもしれませんが、マニアックな情報として下記を載せておきます。

「ソルファ」にも「サイレン」が収録されていますが、
「ソルファ」の「サイレン」はシングルの「サイレン」を軸に、「サイレン＃」を一部融合したものになっています。
つまり、男性視点の「サイレン（シングル盤）」、女性視点の「サイレン＃」、それら２つを融合した「サイレン（アルバム盤）」の３つのサイレンがあることになります。
一度、シングルの「サイレン」「サイレン＃」を連続で聴いてみてください。
ソルファの「サイレン」とはまた違った印象を受けるかもしれません。

それから、発売当初はCCCDでしたが、本人たちの意向で一般的なCDで出し直してるということもお勧めできる点です。
