深夜放送のラジオ番組の中で、
本土復帰直前の沖縄を吉田拓郎がレポートした時に、
紹介されたのが佐渡山豊の「どうちゅいむにぃ」。
「本土復帰万歳」ムードに酔う脳天気な高校生だった私にとって、
この歌は衝撃的だった。
そして、「沖縄」の歴史や風土や人々のことを、
本土復帰の意味を、
高校生なりに考え始めるきっかけになったのだった。

とはいえ、その深夜番組でのレポートも
「沖縄フォーク村」のメンバーによる歌も
「お堅く」て「重苦しい」ものばかりが詰まっているわけではない。
陽気な屈託のない若者としての、ラブソングだったり、
ごくありふれた日常を歌ったほんわかする歌もある。

BIGIN、HY、オレンジレンジ・・・
今人気の沖縄サウンドの源流がここにある。
