ツイン・ギターと、スカスカなミックスをポイントに、“オルタナ”以降のポップさとエモーション、そしてナイーヴさのバランスに長けた楽曲を披露。特に今回は引きの美学が息づき、瑞々しいメロディや、時にコミカルにすら思えるポップ感をより印象づける結果に。

結成17年目の現在も着実な活動を続ける3人組。2004年にはBUMP OF CHICKENやELLEGARDENらの若手を含む参加陣によるトリビュート作品がリリースされたことからもわかるように、ミュージシャンからの支持も高いバンドだが、その背景となるのは、楽曲のよさはもちろん、常に瑞々しい響きが作品から放たれているからだろう。本作でも彼ららしいポップ感覚にあふれたスタイルは不変ながら、よりシンプルに磨き上げられた新鮮なアレンジに惹き付けられる。とくに注目したいのは、2本のギターを効果的に用いた構築手法。ユニゾン・プレイではなく、かといってリードとサイドという役割分担でもない。左右で独立的に配置させた双方を絶妙に並立させ、その均衡したフレーズを軸に聴かせてしまうのである。その感触は過去の作品から明らかに進化しており、結果として“間”を踏まえたリズム・セクションとの関係性も強固に。ロック・バンドとしてのほかにない個性が光る重要作に仕上がった。 (土屋京輔) --- 2006年02月号

　ピロウズの新曲を聴くときに、いつも、山中さわおの才能が枯れてたらどうしよう、とびくびくする。
　けれど、今回も杞憂に終わった。
　美しいメロディーじゃなくて、センチメンタルな言葉じゃなくて、ただ投げやりなほど前進する気持ちを、基本的な孤独を、歌う。心の在処を指されて身が竦む。
「誘われないのに断るセリフを覚えて」なんて痛々しい言葉を織り交ぜて、それでもなお前向きなのだ。

ファッションやデザインには時代という流れがあります。
彼ら the pillows はその流れに乗れずに、陸地で人々の心を留める存在なバンドです。作曲センスはこれまで見てきたミュージシャンでは、
かなりのセンスを誇ると思います。印象に残る曲もいくつもありますが、
Ride on shooting starが最高に良いと思います。最初のギター音で
心を一気に刈り取られた曲ですね！これを聞いてからthe pillowsが
好きになりましたね。
このＭＹ　ＦＯＯＴにも入っているノンフィクションとかカナリ
良いと思います！ぜひ買ってみては？

なんか薦められるままに買ったけど、すごい。なんで今まで知らなかったのか不思議になるくらい。まず、捨て曲がない。全てポップでカッコ良くて、何にも知らないのに「pillowsらしさ」が伝わってきた。今まで聞いたことない彼らの音楽。「MY FOOT」から始まり、常に疾走感、爽快感が漂ってる。「空中レジスター」、「サードアイ」、「ノンフィクション」と、全てにどこか一貫性があって、力強いサウンドが休むことなく鼓膜を刺激する。　　この一枚でpillowsを好きになったし、もっと彼らの世界観に浸りたいと思った。
