1963年12月封切りの作品だそうです。貿易の自由化が迫った時代が背景です。谷啓が挫折と回顧する60年安保はわずか3年前の出来事とは思えないほどです。しかし海外の舞台はあくまでも小道具でそれ以上の意味はありません。小道具としては香港はそれほど使われているわけではありません。懐かしい啓徳空港、今はもうないパン・アメリカン航空はノスタルジーを呼び起こします。後半に出てくるaberdeenへの道やrepulse bayは今もそんなには変わっていないのかもしれません。もう当時から香港は日本の会社の広告で満載のようです。60年代の香港の日本料理店というコンセプトは懐かしいですね。当時も日本から空輸していたし日本人の仲居さんがいましたね。でも客層は映画とは違い、日本人が中心だったようです。香港の街角のシーンは、これ以上は香港のある世代以上の人しかわからないでしょうね。ファンにとってのこの映画のもうひとつのvalueは中尾三枝がクラブで歌うシーンや浜三枝のレパルス湾でのダンスシーンでしょうね。戦争以後笑っていないという設定は戦後20年も経っていない当時の香港での対日感情への暗黙の言及でしょうね。

そういえば高校生のころ、モンティパイソンとクレージーキャッツが好きだったなー、なんてことをビデオのクレージー棚の前で思い出した。再発売されたDVDをよく見ると、クレージーキャッツが香港に行くエピソードを発見。うれしくなって即レンタル。

クレージーの映画としても楽しめたけど、昔の香港がきれいな動画で見られたのがすごくうれしかった。トラムなんか結構映ってたりしている。トラム、昔はもっと存在感があったんだなあ。周りのビルも断然低かったし、車の交通量も少なかったから相対的に目立っていたんだねえ。残念ながらスターフェリーは出てこなかったわ
