トロンボーンはオーケストラでは和音を作る役目が多いので、トロンボーン奏者たちはアンサンブルすることに慣れているのだろう。フランスの名手、ミシェル・ベッケを中心とする8人のトロンボーン奏者(および一人のチューバと二人の打楽器)によるアンサンブルは親密であたたかく、そのハーモニーは微妙な色彩を含んでいて味わい深い。トロンボーンというと、豪快なパワーというイメージが強いかもしれないが、このアルバムでは、ゆったりとした曲での彼らの歌心やハーモニーが最大の魅力となっている。 (山田治生) --- 2005年12月号

トロンボーンの巨匠ミシェル・ベッケと彼の弟子たちによるトロンボーンアンサンブル。8本のトロンボーンでオクトボーンというあたりが洒落てます(曲によりチューバ、打楽器が加わります)。曲のほとんどはベッケがリード奏者を務めています。美しく甘い音色に、繊細なピアニッシモ。果たしてベッケ以外にこの音を出せる人がいるのでしょうか?彼の弟子たちにも注目です。全員がフランスの主力オーケストラに所属しており、第一線で活躍しています。高い個人技に加え、師弟関係から得られたハイレベルなアンサンブルが楽しめます。この一枚は、ミシェル・ベッケがフランストロンボーン界において優れた演奏家であり、また優れた教育者であるということを証明しています。個人的に気に入ったのは不思議な雰囲気が漂うトロンボーンのためのアンサンブル曲「バルカン組曲」とベッケらしい遊びが入った「ウェストサイドストーリー」でした。蛇足ですが、メンバー全員がフランス製トロンボーン「アントワンヌ・コルトワ」を使用しています。フランスで最もメジャーなメーカーであり、パリトロンボーン四重奏団が使用したり、「ベッケモデル」が存在するほどです。日本でいうヤマハでしょうか。ここまで「フランスのトロンボーン」にこだわったCDは他にはありません。ベッケ率いるトロンボーンサウンドがどんな物かをぜひ味わってください。
