もうすべてが筋書きのないドラマ。

ファンの一人として、ステイゴールドの現役時代は大きく２つにわけられるように思います。ひとつは熊沢騎手が乗って、阿寒湖特別以降なかなか勝てなくとも善戦を続ける期間。もうひとつは、武豊騎手に乗り替わって目黒記念を制し、引退レースまで駆け抜ける期間。どちらも素晴らしいのですが、僕は特に熊沢騎手とのコンビがなんとも言えないほど好きでした。

小さいのにズブい。でも根性は抜群。人気薄で何度となく突っ込んでくる。本当に凄い馬です。５０戦、改めて見ても、さまざまな世代の一線級と常に対等に戦い続ける姿は本当に素晴らしいのひとこと。サイレンススズカの悲劇や、テンジンショウグンの一発など、他の馬の印象深いレースもたくさん観ることができて一石二鳥。

ラストに近づくと、あのナリタトップロードの落馬で失格となった京都大賞典。そして締めはもちろん香港ヴァーズ。「羽が生えた」とはまさにその通り。香港はラジオたんぱの方の素晴らしい臨場感溢れる実況が、さらに盛り上げます。

厩舎は奇しくもあのディープインパクトの池江師。勝ち続けるスターがいる一方、こんな個性派もいたんだと、多くの競馬ファンに知って欲しいですね。

この馬のドラマのような競争生活は他のレビューを見ていただければわかると思いますしDVD本編でも感動的に描かれています。ただ、このDVDに不満な点が一つあるとすれば引退式の音声が差し替えられていたことです。引退式当日の音声は彼の馬名の由来となったスティービーワンダーの曲、ステイゴールド(長嶋親子がキャッチボールしている証券会社のCMの曲です)が流れるなか杉本清さんが『本日は私の引退式にお集まりくださいまして本当にありがとうございます…(中略)…私の名前はステイゴールドです!!』と杉本さんがステイゴールドになりきった司会をされてとても感動的でした(ちなみに私は『ステイゴールドです!!』と言われた瞬間から引退式終了まで号泣していました)。ぜひあの感動的な引退式を完全版で入れてほしかったのですが著作権の問題などを考えると無理なのでしょう…ですがそれを差し引いても素晴らしいDVDであることには間違いありません。ぜひ皆さんも人間が書いたら確実に『クサい』と言われる感動ドラマをお手に取ってご覧ください。

目黒記念で武豊が乗って勝ったのが一番ショックでした。
なんで代わってんのって思ったし、池江調教師が憎かった。
学校のクラスの副担任が池江さんにそっくりのなので憎しみが消えなかった。
正直オークスのシルクプリマドンナはどうでもよかったくらい。

どうしても俺は熊沢騎手で重賞レースを勝ったステイが見たかった。
それもかなわず。引退の時ぐらい熊沢さんに乗せてもよかったのに。
　
救いはＪＲＡのポスター。あれはかなりいい。
