昨今なにかと話題を集める欧州産ジャズのなかで、日本人の嗜好に合った良質のピアニストが数多く存在するオランダ。なかでも84年、“ヨーロピアン・ジャズ・トリオ”の初代ピアニストとして華麗なデビューを飾ったカレル・ボエリーは、いまや日本のファンにはすっかりおなじみの存在だ。今回の新作では、ブルージィで哀愁あふれるバラードを中心に選んで取り上げている。フット・ペダルを多用し、ひとつひとつの音をていねいに重ねていくボエリーのアプローチは、ピアノ・トリオとしてのジャズを、“ムーディなBGM”または“生活を演出するための道具”と考える向きには“探し求めていたものが見つかった”という印象を受けるかもしれない。4曲目からは、アルバムの展開を微妙に変え、ポップでコンテンポラリーな8ビートのナンバーや軽妙にスウィングするスタンダードも披露するなど、作品としてのメリハリもつけている。彼のファンにはうれしい“近況報告”といえるだろう。 (後藤 誠) --- 2006年01月号

アナタが寒い冬の夜、コートの襟を立て『もう一杯だけ飲みたいな〜』と通りすがりのバーのドアを開けたとしましょう。そこは暖かくオシャレで落ち着いた空間。そしてBGMにこのアルバムが流れていたら…一発でお気に入りの店になること間違いなしです。一音・一音が美しいのでスロウな曲も退屈になることはなく、ベースとタイコも程良い抑え方（それでいてソロでは気持ち良いテクでからんできます）なのでややもすれば騒がしくなりがちなアップテンポの曲も邪魔に感じることはありません。俺の敬愛するSir Roland Hanna先生亡きあと（特に先生の87年のアルバム“瞬間移動音楽装置Vol.1”が好きな方には絶対オススメ！）最も期待する今が旬の要チェックピアニストです。

ヨーロピアンジャズトリオの「夜のタンゴ」に続いてＭ＆Ｉがリリースした元ヨーロピアンジャズトリオのカレル・ボエリー氏の新作。ジャケット写真は、ややその方向に振られたものですが、下品さはなく、かなり印象的で、これはジャケ買いする人も多いでしょう。サウンドは、これも透明感が際立つヨーロピアン・サウンドで、ピアノの美音は存分に楽しめます。かなりオリジナル曲が多いのですが、私の大好きな映画、バーグマンの「追想」のテーマ曲（アナスタシア）なども演奏しています。

ｴﾘｯｸﾘｰﾄﾞの「BLUE TRAIN」、ﾙｲｽｳﾞｧﾝﾀﾞｲｸの「BALLAD IN BLUE」、
そしてこの作品を束ねて小生はM&I-BLUE３部作と呼んでいる。
３枚ともBLUEとﾀｲﾄﾙにあること、ｼﾞｬｹｯﾄが適度にｴﾛﾃｨｯｸなこと、
そして名うての名手３人の、それぞれに今を切り取った秀作であること
がその理由である。
日本人好みな方向性は相変わらずこのﾚｰﾍﾞﾙらしいが、
此処のところ少々趣を変え、ｳﾞｪﾃﾗﾝ･中堅処の良さを生かすことにも
腐心しているようだ。MOONKS選の旧譜５作品再発もその流れか。
いずれにせよこういう作品が日本発で世界に発信できるのは
好ましいことと言えよう。是非お試し願いたい。
