まだ若いジェニファーコネリーのバレエシーンと、ラストシーンでアヘンを吸って朦朧となっていくデ・ニーロの姿が印象的。デ・ニーロには、涙を誘われる。

1920〜50年代のニューヨーク、暴力と友情にあふれたユダヤ系ギャング、甘酸っぱい青春、友情から発した裏切りなどが、物悲しい曲にぴったりと合っている。

時代が飛び飛びに前後するので、見る時は気合を入れて。

デ・ニーロが若い役から年配の役までものの見事に演じきっています。
終盤に演じる年配（恐らく６０代？）の役では、前頭部の髪の毛を抜いて自然なハゲ上がりを作っています。
特殊メイクとはいえ、顔のしわも演技も至極自然！
彼の役者に対する熱意がひしひしと伝わります。
また、科白の無い顔だけや目線だけの演技はいつも感心します。
エンニオ・モリコーネのパンフルートのテーマ音楽は現代でも廃れることのない名曲中の名曲！
自然と雰囲気が盛り上がります^^

阿片と禁酒法の時代のアメリカ。ユダヤ教徒が住むニューヨークの一角を舞台に、少年ギャングがいっぱしのマフィアに育っていく。金と女をめぐる友情と裏切り。そして３５年の時を隔てた再会の事情。４時間近い本編を通して、少年期、壮年期、そして老境を迎えた”今”が複雑に交錯しながら画面に語られる。観ている側は、油断するとストーリーについていけないかも…
乱れに乱れたアメリカの一時代において、珍しくもない小さな成り上がり組のお話に終わらず、終盤では思わぬ展開が待ち受けている。アメリカという国では、こんな劇的なことだって起こってもおかしくない時代があったんだよと、セルジオ・レオーネはこのタイトルを付けたのではないかとすら思えるのは僕だけか？
ただ、「アマポーラ」の曲と、デボラ役のエリザベス・マクガバンのイメージがあまりにも美しくシンクロして、観た後も強い記憶に残っている。
