　この数年、私は、雛祭りが来る度に、この作品を思ひ出して居る。−−この映画は、黒澤明監督の傑作の一つである。それにも関わらず、この作品（『夢』）が、十分な評価を受けて居ない事が、私は、残念でならない。−−この作品は、黒澤監督が見た夢とされる、複数の独立した物語を集めたオムニバス映画である。言葉を代えれば、「夢」と題された短編映画集である。その中には、残念ながら、少々退屈な物も有るが、それらの中で、狐の嫁入りを題材にした第一話と雛祭りを題材にした第二話、そして、水車の村を描いた最後の物語は、文句無しに傑作であると、私は、思ふ。特に、私は、桃の節句の日、桃の木の精霊と思はれる不思議な少女と、幼い日の黒澤監督自身と思はれる少年の出会ひと別れを描いた第二話が、大好きである。この物語には、第一話や最後の物語と同様、黒澤監督の、失はれた日本の風景への深い愛惜の心が溢れて居る。−−この映画に描かれた日本の風景は、もう何処にも見つける事が出来無いのだろうか？

冷静な目で観れば、このオムニバス作品の中でどの作品が素晴らしく、どの作品がつまらないか、ということはすぐ分かるだろう。そもそも、普段の睡眠でも分かるように、夢というものは面白いものもあれば、どうということのないものもある。それを巨額をつぎ込んで作品化するかどうかは別問題ではあるが…。とはいえ、つまらない作品でも、格調の高さと威厳は保っているのはさすが。エンターテインメント監督としての黒澤明の作品としては最悪の部類だろうが、芸術映画の監督としての作品と考えれば、愛すべき駄作と言ったところか。巨匠の夢に付き合うだけの心の余裕がある時に観ることをお勧めします。（良い短編は本当に良いですが）。
