1995年発表の日本のみのベスト盤の10周年仕様版。ドラマ主題歌の影響が大きいですが、軽くミリオンを超えるセールスは驚いたものです。
これまでもゴールドディスク盤、DVD付等で再発されていますが、今回はレアなボーナスディスクが付きました。

1枚目はオリジナルのままで、当時日本のドラマで使われた「青春の輝き」をトップに置いたリチャード･カーペンター監修。
最新のリミックスも使用したものですが、マスタリングの音圧が高く少々息苦しい感もあります。
2枚目も1992年に日本のみで発売された「Yestarday Once More Karaoke」に2003年のシングル「Top Of The World」にカップリングされた「Sing」を加えたもの。
長らく廃盤だったので嬉しい再発です。
追加ディスクがカラオケの為マニア仕様とも思えますが、価格的な差で言えばオリジナルを買うよりお得だと思います。

メインのベスト盤は言わずもがなの一枚であり、基本的なカーペンターズのいわゆるシングルのヒット曲を網羅している。音質は他のベストに比べ、クリアさに欠け、今一なので大推薦とは言えない。
重要なのはおまけとして付いているカラオケ。しかしカラオケという言い方には語弊がある。オリジナルの曲からカレンのメインボーカルだけ削除してあるので厚みのあるバックコーラスやボーカルに隠れている演奏が全面に聞こえる。カーペンターズのサウンドを支えているのはもちろんカレンの比類ないボーカルであるが、それに負けず劣らず、いかにリチャードの緻密なアレンジや多重録音のハーモニーがカーペンターズをカーペンターズたらしめているかがとても良くわかる一枚だと思う。二枚聞くことでカーペンターズの音楽性の偉大さが十分に堪能できると思う。ただし、カラオケばかり連続して聞いていると段々切なくなってきたりする。カレンのボーカルがないとやはり物足りないのだ。そしてまたカレンのボーカルが聞きたくなる。カーペンターズとはそんなグループであり、かけがえのないバンドである。だからこのカラオケは大推薦である。
余談だがカレンの声だけのアカペラ盤も聞いてみたい、とも思う。
