ジャズヴァイオリニストとしての確固たる地位を築き上げたグラッペリ。そんな彼の魅力が存分に伝わるCDです。ジャズヴァイオリンを聴いたことない人でも、ちょっとお洒落なカフェにいるような、もしくは夜のパブにいるような、そんな雰囲気を味わえると思います。特にオススメは１曲目ですが、すべてにおいて注目したいのがグラッペリのボウイングの素晴らしさ。みずみずしさを失わず、かつ極端に出過ぎることもない。ジャズとしてのヴァイオリンの魅力を最大限に引き出している、でもグラッペリにしか出来ない、そんな演奏です。

ステファン・グラッペリが亡くなってから丁度１０年が経ちましたが、未だにグラッペリを越えるジャズ・ヴァイオリニストは出現しません。それほど偉大なジャズ・ヴァイオリン奏者であったことは間違いありません。技術もさることながら、音色の甘さと艶やかさは絶品で、この比類無き才能が多くの人を魅了し続けてきた理由でしょう。

メロディ・メイカーととして有名なコール・ポーターの作品を集めたＣＤです。
冒頭の「It's all right with me」から素晴らしい演奏が飛び出してきます。1975〜76年の録音ですから、グラッペリは７０才前ですね。このスウィング感はどうでしょうか。スピードにのって弾きまくっているという感じです。オルガンのエディ・ルイスのインプロヴィゼーションに対抗して、グラッペリはリーダーとしての貫禄を示し、早いパッセージをものともせず、華麗な演奏を披露してくれました。名演奏ですね。

有名な「Anything goes」もご機嫌な演奏で綴られています。これぞスウィング！といったお手本のようなノリの良さを聴かせてくれています。メンバーとの意気もピッタリでオススメの１曲です。
「Miss Otis regrets」はとてもしっとりとした音楽ですね。ジャズに関心のない人でもこのようなうっとりとするヴァイオリンを聴かされますと、自然と演奏に惹きこまれていくはずです。低音の伸びと高音の艶やかさには脱帽です。
美しい音楽はジャンルを問いません。ジャズとヴァイオリンの相性の良さを感じ取ってください。
