『I love ROCK N' ROLL』とは、かなりベタなタイトルなのだが、5人組の髭としては違和感なくスンナリと聴けるロックンロール・ナンバーがたっぷり12曲。若干オトボケ風のキャラと遊び心のあるサウンドが随所にちりばめられて楽しげな作品に仕上がった。

今やまったくオリジナルな音楽など容易には作れないが、ミュージシャンは自らのさまざまなルーツを再構築しながら、そのなかに魅力的な個性を芽生えさせる。ミニ・アルバム『Thank you, Beatles』(2005年5月)でメジャー進出を果たした髭(HiGE)の楽曲にも、ロック/ポップスの普遍性を感じさせつつ、彼らにしか成し得ない質感が備わっている。フル・アルバムとしては通算2作目となる本作は、その意味でも期待に違わぬ仕上がりだ。原点を繙けば70年代辺りのマテリアルを見出せるが、とにかく自由奔放にキャッチーなスタイルを提示しているのがいい。軽快なグルーヴで心地よく響いてくるシンプルなメロディ・ライン、曲名からも想像できるように独特のレトリックで綴られた歌詞、丁寧に組み上げられたアンサンブルに存在する絶妙な間。十人十色であるバランス感覚を抽象してしまう面白さがあり、聴き込むごとに、その稀有な世界観に惹き付けられていく。多様な感情を揺らす一枚だ。 (土屋京輔) --- 2005年12月号
