“Celtic Woman” はまさに青天の霹靂、目から鱗であった。その感動の余韻も冷め遣らぬまま、また素晴らしい歌姫が登場した。本国では４年前の発売だから、日本に天から届いたと言った方がいいだろう。
　自分の中での位置付けでは、イギリスの女性トラディストNo.1はJune Tabor であり、彼女のベストはファースト・アルバムの“Airs and Graces”である。この中の無伴奏で歌う暗いアルトのトラッドは、最高の至福であり、忘我の境地に追いやってくれる。
　いかに私がアイルランド贔屓の人間であれ、いかにClannadやAlatanが好きであっても、June Taborに拮抗し得るトラディストは、残念ながらアイルランドにはいなかった。　
しかし、彼女の足元にも及ばなかったのが、一気に胸元までつかまんとする勢いのある、素晴らしいアルバムがアイルランドから届いた。聴けば、驚天動地、狂喜乱舞。
　10曲中8曲がトラッド・ナンバーで、彼女自身のアレンジによるものだが、元歌に対するスタンスの取り方、解釈の仕方、シンギングに至る方法論は、June Tabor 同様、極めて真摯な姿勢が伺える。
マリア信仰にも似た境地にさせる、崇高な美しい、ちょっぴり甘い声。6曲目のゲール語の物悲しい曲には、思わず「おお、リリシズム！」と叫びたくなる衝動に駆られる。9曲目はAltanも良かったが、より味わい深いものです。　あのSandy Dennyの名曲“Who Knows Where The Time Goes” に至っては、原曲を凌駕していると言っても過言ではない。
　残念ながら、彼女の作品はこの1枚限り。彼女のサイトによれば、ディングル半島の地元のパブで、毎週水曜日に歌っているそうです。ならば、行くしかないですよね。

とても、アイルランドだ。　確かに、アイルランドだ。
アイルランド・ケルトといった楽曲がヒューチャーされる中、
よそゆきではない，本来のアイルランドは、こうなのだろうと思う。

アイリスさんの歌声は、無理のない余裕のある発声。伸びやかで穏やかで安心する声質・音域。
･････と、ここまでは、よくある話。
センスがいいと感じたのは、
牧歌的になりがちな伝統的な曲も、洗練した曲に歌い上げていること。
伝統的曲は、昔。になることが多い。アリスさんの唄は、伝統的な曲にも今があり、時がとまっていない。

伝統的なものを、ＤＮＡに培われたものを感じ、今につなげる歌声は、
頭の中に、じ〜んと。 気持ちに、ず〜んと。
入って、拡がってゆきます。
