   やり過ぎは成功へのいちばんの近道――この言葉は、少なくともクイーンの画期的なアルバム『A Night at the Opera（オペラ座の夜）』には当てはまる。このアルバム・タイトルでまず思い浮かぶのは、クイーンというバンド独特のオペラ的な趣向だ。本作中それが端的に現れているのは、名曲「Bohemian Rhapsody」だろう。その昔にヘヴィー・ロック・ファンの熱い支持を得、ずっと後になって映画『ウェインズ・ワールド』で人気が再燃した曲である。もちろん、『A Night at the Opera（オペラ座の夜）』というのはマルクス兄弟の映画『オペラは踊る』の原題でもある。この符号は偶然ではない。ポンプロックの頂点を極める際にも思わせぶりなウィンクを忘れないのがクイーンなのだ。

   繊細なる過剰演出ぶりで記憶される本作だが、実はヴァラエティ豊かな楽曲がそろっている。ゴージャスなピアノに支えられた「You're My Best Friend」、ポール・マッカートニー風の「39」、ミュージック・ホールが似合いそうな「Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon」、メタル・ロックにペダル・キーボードを導入した「Death on Two Legs」と「I'm in Love with My Car」など、実に多彩だ。本アルバムはもっともクイーンらしいアルバムといわれている。当然の評価といえるだろう。（Daniel Durchholz, Amazon.com）

高校生の時クイーンの3枚目のアルバムであるシアハートアタックを聴いて、あまりに華麗でバラエティーにとんだ曲の数々に衝撃を受け、一発でファンになってしまった。そして、待ちに待った4枚目のオペラ座の夜の日本版発売を待ちきれず、輸入版を買って聴いた時のワクワク感と前作を凌駕する感動がこのアルバムを聴くたびに、よみがえってきます。クイーンの中でも最高傑作です。必聴あれ！！！

今更説明する必要もないほどの名曲が収められた「オペラ座の夜」。
それらの有名曲以外の曲も珠玉の名作ばかり。
評価の高いQUEENのアルバムの中でも完成度の高い作品として
一際高い評価を受けています。

個人的には'39やシーサイド・ランデヴーがお気に入りです。
クイーンのファンでない方も聞いて見て損は無いと思います。

ハードロック､フォーク､バラード、コミカルソング､様々な効果音、それにあのボヘミアン・ラプソディーに英国国歌まで、正にクィーンの集大成ともゆうべき名盤が音質アップで登場！今更説明の必要は無いけど､持ってない人は絶対買いですね。ラブ・オブ・マイ・ライフはいつ聴いても心が清らかになります。
