長身で金髪の中年男が紙袋にいれた時限爆弾で次々に犯行を
重ねていく。しかし、その時強姦魔が犯行を目撃。彼らを執
拗に追う鬼刑事。最後に残るものは？

Ｂ級巨大生物映画の達人バート・Ｉ・ゴードン監督作品。
７３年、バイオレンス映画。結論から言うと「面白い！」。
暗い過去を背負って生きている爆弾魔、己の欲望を満たす為
に平気で女性を襲う強姦魔、法規制を無視して犯罪者を制裁
する行き過ぎの鬼刑事など観客の喜びそうなキャラクターの
設定が好き物のハートを捕らえます。心に闇を宿した男たち
の知恵比べは必見です。ラストにはすべての謎が解かれるこ
とでしょう。オススメできる逸品です。

エンドロールの曲は切なく悲しい。

　当初は中々ソフトが出回らなかったモノの、最近のＤＶＤ市場に於けるカルト・ムービーのソフト化の流れは素晴らしい。今作など、70年代のＢ級映画の匂いがプンプン漂う怪作なのだが、今回、晴れて陽の目を見る事が出来、感無量の気分だ（笑）。とにかく、チャック・コナーズとネビィル・ブランドの、いかにもマイナーでマニアックな危ない“ツラ構え”のふたりが、「爆弾魔」と「暴行魔」という役柄で、ファナティックに立ち回るその姿を見るだけで、カルトたる所以と言える。

隣のお姉さんと小学生の私が、最初に映画館で観た映画がこの“マッドポンバー”だった。爆弾魔を目撃した強姦魔を型破りな刑事が追いかける…。今思うに、Ｂ級映画の鬼才が、超個性派の３人の俳優を配して製作した７０年代アメリカン・ムービーの異色作である。封入されている座談会も興味深く読めたし、この作品のＤＶＤ化はうれしい限りである。
それにしても隣のお姉さんと小学生の私が、どんな顔をしてスクリーンを観ていたのかは、遠い記憶の底に消えてしまった謎である。
