この名盤が紙ジャケで再発されるとは、嬉しいかぎりです。
架空の映画サウンドトラックというのがコンセプトで、全編にわたって
美しいメロディとアレンジで、ドリーミーな世界を創り上げています。
ロジャー・ニコルスで有名な「THE.DRIFTER」も、
バカラックの「ME,JAPANESE BOY」も原曲以上に甘い音色で仕上げて
数多いカバーの中でも、ベスト・トラックと言えると思います。
古き良き時代の映画音楽の香りを残しているからでしょうか。

６０年代後半は「サージェント・ペパーズ〜」の影響で、
数多くのコンセプトアルバムが発表されましたが、
今、改めて聴くとアイデア先行のみだったり、
ミュージシャンの力量不足というものが少なくありません。
その中でもこのアルバムは月日が経っても色褪せない魅力を感じます。
それはスタンダードナンバーにも通じる絶対的な
メロディーの美しさが、このアルバムにはたくさん詰まっているからだと思います。

６８年発表の３作目。後にプロデューサーとして名をあげるテッド・テンプルマンが在籍していたグループとしても有名。バーバンクというのはワーナー・ブラザーズの本拠地のある場所のことらしい。バーバンクというとすぐに思い浮かぶのはヴァン・ダイク・パークスですが、共通して言えるのはノスタルジックで古き良き時代のアメリカを体感出来るかようなドリミーなサウンドを聞かせるということでしょう。基本はソフト・ロックですが、より幻想性が高いと言うか、演劇性が強い気がします。適所に効果音なども導入されており、まさに映画そのまま。美しいメロディとコーラスも聞き物です。１５．はロジャー・ニコルズ・アンド・スモール・サークル・オブ・フレンズの曲としても有名。
