【プロフィール】
1958年6月7日米国ミネアポリス生まれ。本名プリンス・ロジャー・ネルソン。独学で音楽を始め、10代半ばにしてギター、キーボード、ドラムス、ベースなどさまざまな楽器をマスター。78年に『フォー・ユー』でデビュー。セクシャルな歌詞と奇抜なファッション、独創性にあふれた音楽で脚光を集め、ブラック・コンテンポラリーの中心的存在となる。『ダーティ・マインド』(80年)あたりからの過度の肉体露出や性的表現から“異端のイメージが定着していった。主演映画『パープル・レイン』(84年)とそのサントラが空前の大ヒットを記録し、80年代最高の大スターに。その後も名作を次々と発表し、自らのレーベル、ペイズリー・パークやNPGレコードを設立。近年はインターネットで新作をリリースするなど新たなスタイルでの表現活動を展開。“20世紀最後のポップ・スターと呼ばれ、不動の人気を誇る。

これまでに、
この作品を「最高傑作！」という人には会った事はないですし、
これからもないとは思いますが、
最後まで一気に聴けてしまう、とても楽しめるアルバムです。

映画「バットマン」絡みということで、
プリンス自身も肩の力を抜いて楽しんで作った雰囲気が感じられます。
また、プリンス特有の密室感があるにもかかわらず、
お茶目で可愛らしい聴きやすい作品です。

プリンスを気味悪がって敬遠してるような人にも
軽い気持ちで聴いて欲しいです。
きっと十分に楽しめて何回も聴けると思いますよ。

4.0 out of 5 stars 殿下に巨大な商業的成功をもたらした作品, 2006/10/7
プリンスの他の作品のレベルが非常に高いところにあるので、どうしてもファンからの評価が低くなってしまいがちなアルバムです。またプリンス本人にしても「ベスト盤」を作る際に、このアルバムから１曲も選ばなかったことから、本当の意味で単なる一映画の「サントラ」としての認識しかないのかもしれません。

しかし非常にポップで耳障りの良い楽曲が並ぶこのアルバムは「パープルレイン」以降、アルバムの質とは反対に商業的にジリ貧に陥っていた（特にラヴセクシーツアーの商業的な惨敗で多大な負債を背負っていた）彼を再び第一線に引き戻し、巨大な商業的成功をもたらしたという意味に於いてはタイミング的にも内容的にも必然的に生み出された作品なのだと私は理解しています。「いつでも売れる曲を作ろうと思えば簡単にできるんだよ」というプリンスの言葉をまさに実証する形ともなり、僕自身は戦慄を覚えた記憶があります；

映画「バットマン」に使用する為の数曲を監督から依頼されたプリンスが、映画の撮影現場を訪れた際に「音楽が聞こえる…」と凄まじいインスピレーションを受けてしまい、ミネアポリスに飛んで帰って直ぐさまレコーディングに取りかかった結果、ものの数日でアルバム１枚分の曲が仕上がってしまった…というプリンスらしいエピソードのあるシロモノでもあります。

当時はこのアルバムの成功で、日本のマスコミにもプリンスが今では信じられないくらい露出しまくっていました。この成功を受けて行われた「ヌードツアー」がテレビ朝日において午後７時から２時間枠のゴールデンタイムで放送されましたし、プリンス・ファミリーの作品も続々とＣＤ化されました。今の日本での扱いの低さからは想像も出来ないんですが、そんなファンにとって良い時代もありました。。。

このアルバムを通じて、プリンスの「ポップ」な部分を是非堪能してください。聴きやすいので、プリンス初心者の方にお勧めです。

…力入れずにやりました…感がある殿下の作品。

｢1週間もかけずにできたな〜｣って言いそうな出来上がり。

曲はいいです。好き嫌いあるだろうけど…。
