　どうも最近インターネット上ではビル・エヴァンス関係が凄い人気で、「アンダーカレント」もジャズ売り上げトップ１０入りしているようです。エヴァンスが受けるなら、モダン・ジャズ・カルテット（ＭＪＱ）あたりに人気が波及してもおかしくはない、と思いますが、そうはならないようです。本作は、ルイスならではの叙情味に溢れたintimateな傑作です。ジム・ホールも参加しており、演奏内容からは「アンダーカレント」に引けはとらないと思います。ジョン・ルイスは、晩年バッハに傾倒していましたが、やはり技術的にクラシックのプレーヤーに及ぶはずもなく、ＭＪＱ在籍中の５０年代がベストです。エヴァンスに飽きたら、聴いてほしい名盤です。
