   明治時代、実業家の息子で職につかず高等遊民の生活を送っている長井大助（松田優作）は、学生時代の友人・平岡（小林薫）と再会。平岡の妻・三千代（藤谷美和子）はかつて長井が愛しながら身を引いていた女性であった。やがて長井と三千代はお互いの想いが再燃していくのだが……。
   文豪・夏目漱石の同名小説を『家族ゲーム』『失楽園』などの森田芳光監督が完全映画化。明治という時代を様式化した美術や衣裳、小道具、台詞回しなど、ノスタルジックかつスタイリッシュな映像世界がめくるめくように展開し、その中から男女の愛がじわじわ醸し出されていく。抑えに抑えた松田の静なる演技も実に見事。梅林茂の悲しみの叙情をたたえた音楽も忘れがたい余韻を残してくれている。（増當竜也）

5.0 out of 5 stars これぞ文芸作品の映画化の鑑, 2005/10/21
百合の花、そして赤。これは原作「それから」で外せないアイテム。ともすれば森田監督の過剰演出と取られがちですが、実は原作通りの演出。しかしこの映画では表現の難しいこれらのアイテムを見事に表現しています。
ＡＴＧとは違い、漱石文学のエッセンスをそのまま凝縮したストレートな表現と解釈。しかしそれを、現代の観客を飽きさせないように現代風に味付けした絶妙の匙加減。そして素晴らしい音楽。
これぞ名作です。今までＤＶＤ化されなかったのが不可解です。「冬のソナタ」や「せかちゅう」、「赤いシリーズ」のリメイクが流行る今だから、また再評価されるべき作品です。
ただ、松田優作ＢＯＸの単品化のせいでしょうか、パッケージデザインと「Ａｎｄ Ｔｈｅｎ」というタイトルが、ハードボイルドで、イメージが・・・。パッケージが藤谷美和子の儚い写真で、オリジナルの映画にも使われていた、原本通りのフォントだったら言うことなかったのに、それが残念です。でも、星は減らさない、それほど名作です。

傑作はオープニングを見ただけで大体予感がするものですが、
このときも藤谷美和子の写真が浮かんで来たところで”もうあきまへん”状態になってしまったのを覚えています。隣の女の子が「・・・きれい」って呟いてました。
そのまま４回繰り返して観て深夜になってしまい、当時高校生だった私は家に帰ってえらいこと怒られてしまいました。
以来、死ぬほど映画を観てきましたが、いまだに私の邦画ベストワンです。
触れ合わないラブシーンがここまで濃密になりえるのを見ると、日本人でよかったと思いますです。

ただ藤谷美和子見たさに、これを買いました。
藤谷美和子に限らず、映像が綺麗です。
音楽も良かったです。
しかし、なんと言っても一良かったのは夏目漱石の原作ではないでしょうか。
これまでの中で一番ロマンッチクな日本文学、日本映画です。
