このライブ音源は、KLRUのAustin City Limits 14th SeasonというTVショウのために1988年12月14日、
録音されたものです。

EJのファンは、本作品の発売をどれほど心待ちにしていたことでしょう。
Ericのライブ音源というとJohn Stix監修のguitar recordingsレーベルから1991年に発売された
「guitar's PRACTICING MUSICIANS Vol.2」で、今回収録された「Cliffs Of Dover」１曲のみを聞く
ことができましたが、神憑り的なストラトのトーンをたっぷりとライブ音源で聞くことができる本
作品はEJファンのみならず、音楽ファンのマスト・アイテムとなるでしょう。

このAustin City Limitsは、自身初となるソロ・アルバム「tones」を発表し、２nd「Ah Via Musicom」
を1990年に発表する前の過渡期で、Ericがミュージシャンとして大化けした時期です。

2ndに収録される「Righteous」、「Steve's Boogie」、「East Wes」、「Cliffs Of Dover」、「Desert Rose」
をプレイし、３rd「Venus Isle」に収録される「Camel's Night Out」もプレイしています。
また、自他共に認めるJimi Hendrixフリークらしく、「Love Or Confusion」、「Are You Experienced?」
もプレイしています。

美しいイントロから始まる「Cliffs Of Dover」に涙しましょう。

88年の地元テキサスオースティンでのライブ。安定していながらも大変な勢いを感じさせるパフォーマンスです。彼独特の絶品なトーンで素晴らしい演奏を繰り広げています。昔、米国のギター雑誌だったと思いますが、彼のトーンを「巨大なバイオリンが鳴っているような」と評していましたが、そうした感じをしっかりと捉えたライブ盤であると思います。ギタリストとしてのEric Johnsonを堪能したいひとには特にお薦めです。

待望のAUSTIN CITY LIMITSの音源ＣＤ化です。
私は、ずっと長い間待ち続けていました。
待っていたERICファンも多いでしょう。
良い作品ですからERICのファンなら迷わず買いましょう！
「CLIFFS OF DOVER」はGUITAR'S PRACTICING MUSICIANS Vol.2に収録のものとは別MIXです。
GUITAR'S~に収録されている方は、当時ＴＶ放映されたAUSTIN CITY LIMITSとほぼ同じ音質（同マスター音源を元にしている？）ですが、
今回のＣＤではERIC本人は製作に関わっていないのか、音の処理が放映当時と違います。
当時の放送では、クリーンサウンドにはステレオコーラスが掛かっていますが、歪みの方にはコーラスが掛かっていません。
今回のＣＤでは、全曲前編にわたってコーラスが掛かりっぱなしです。
今回のMIXにより、あとでエフェクトを加えたのでしょうが、
ERIC本人の意向ではないと思うのですが、どうでしょうか？
あと、「ZAP」のみ放映時とエンディング部分のみ違います。
おそらくＴＶ版ではエンディング部分に別テイクを編集したのでは？
1984年のAUSTIN CITY LIMITSでも、実際は数曲を２回ずつ演奏しているので（１曲は途中で止めてやりなおしている）、その可能性はあります。
できれば、後処理のコーラスエフェクトのない、そのままの音質で聴きたかったです。そこだけが残念です。
