いつのまにかかなり長い間続いているG3の東京でのライブビデオ。いつものサトリアーニ、ヴァイに、今回はDream Theaterのジョン・ペトルーシ。さらにトニー・マカパイン、ビリー・シーン、マイク・ポートノイ...と豪華な面々が脇を固めます。サトリアーニ、ヴァイ、3人でのジャムが各3曲、ペトルーシはDream TheaterでもLiquid Tension Experimentでもなく公式サイト通販のみのソロアルバムからの2曲。

ライブパフォーマンスは上々で3人とも「らしい」プレイを見せてくれますし、映像も最近のものらしく美しい。が、このDVD最大の問題点はカメラワークです。速いフレーズでギタリストの手元がアップになる場面では、常にカメラがガクガクしている上に手の動きについて行けていません。手が動く、一瞬遅れてカメラがガクンと動く、手が動く、カメラがガクリ...と言った具合です。引きの絵はなんとか普通、というレベル。

ということで国内版の価格を払うには躊躇してしまいますが、この値段でリージョンもフリーなので、特典映像が字幕ナシでもOKであれば買いだと思います。

取りあえずこのDVDは日本仕様の物出てます。

さて内容ですが、ギターインスト物としては申し分ないのでは。と言うか文句の付けようのない三人ですからね。Vaiに限っては何人もスタープレーヤーが出ているので、ソロとして取り上げていいのかどうか分かりません。ただもちろん彼のソロ名義のDVDの方がより楽しめます。ほぼ同じメンバーですし、このメンバーでG3に出るのははっきり言ってズルい(笑)。個人的にはトニー・マカパインがフェイヴァリット・ギタリストなので、彼の動いている映像は余りないので、VaiにTHANXというところでしょうか。

それとこのDVDの気に入らないところも書いておきますね。特にジョン・ペトルーシの映像の編集です。こういうDVD買う人はギタリストのプレイを中心に観たい人が大多数だと思います。特に極めのフレーズを弾いている時の手元を観て、あまりの凄さに溜め息をつきたいのです。そういう観点から言うと、ジョン・ペトルーシの映像の編集は大ブーイングです。ベーシストやドラムやステージの引きの映像のバックに極めのフレーズなんか聴きたくないのです。彼の手元を観たいのですよ。極めのフレーズの時はその手元をちゃんと映して欲しい。多分ちゃんと映した物はあるのでしょうが、全体のバランスとかアホなこと考えてこういう映像にしているのでしょう。多くのヘヴィ・メタルギタリストたちがリスペクトするジョンのフレージングをもっとちゃんと考えて編集して欲しい。Vaiのように派手な演出一切無しのシンプルなステージでジョンのプレイを堪能出来ると思って楽しみにしていたのに！それでも彼の凄さは伝わってきますが、映像編集した人に文句を言いたい、ということでレビューを閉めましょう。

まあ、３人のギタープレイに関しては言うまでもなく素晴らしいです。個人的にはＶａｉ氏のパフォーマンスが一押し。彼はプレイだけじゃなく魅せるパフォーマーとしても最高だと思います。特にギターを弾いている時のあの顔。音が歪めば顔も歪む。僕の好きになったギターヒーローはみんなそうでした。最近のＶａｉはアームを使ってひたすら志村けんさんの「アイ〜ン」を連発するのが好きみたいですね。（笑）

非常に残念だったのは、せっかく日本でのＧ３と言う事でスペシャルゲストとして日本のスーパーギターヒーロー Ｍｒ．Ｄ！が参加しているのに、その映像がカットされてる事でした。せめてオマケコーナーにでも入れて欲しかったですね。と言う事で星４つです。
