当時も今もダッキーに共感を覚える気持ちは変わりません。アンドリューマッカーシーみたくハンサムな王子でもない僕らはダッキーにしかなれないんです。日本の某より男子みたいな少女マンガで育った女の子が味気ない大人になるのは無理もないでしょう。

ジョンヒューズとハワードドゥィッチの青春映画の代表作。同じコンビで「恋しくて」があるけれど、本作は「恋しくて」とは役回りが、男と女が入れ替わった感じ。つまり、富裕層の男の子にあこがれる低所得層の女の子が本作の主人公、そして主人公を好きな幼馴染の男の子がいる。だが、「恋しくて」では富裕層の女の子（本当は低所得層だが）にあこがれる低所得層の男の子が主人公、そして主人公を好きなの幼馴染の女の子がいる。つまりこの２作は表裏一体の作品ですね。そして、エンディングがこの2作はそれぞれ違っているのです。見ていない人の為に書けませんが、とある情報によると本作のエンディングも当初は「恋しくて」と同じだったらしい。しかし試写会での反応が悪かったので差し替えたらしいのだ。でも「恋しくて」の時はそういう反応が無かったという事はやはりメアリースチュアートマスターソンの魅力がいかに観る物に好影響を与えたかという事が計り知れる。最後にこの頃のアメリカの青春映画はこういう富裕層と低所得層というアメリカ社会に根強い格差を背景にした物が主流ですね。まあ別にアメリカに限らず大昔の「ロミオとジュリエット」の頃からの永遠のテーマではあるが、均一化された今の日本社会ではどこ吹く風の様なお話ですね。この映画も音楽が非常にマッチしているが、そういう音楽のブームで見ても７０年代後半は低所得層から生まれたパンクムーブメントがありそのブームを引きずって、まだ８０年代は少し不良っぽい突っ張った者への憧憬があったのが、９０年代に入ってからはこの傾向から脱却したのか「セントエルモスファイアー」を経て「ビバリーヒルズ青春白書」みたいな富裕層の中だけの青春物が出てきました。
